Oh, the girl on the right is saying it. I erased her name because it has swears in it lol. The person that made this story didn’t get how speech bubbles worked.
Back in my World of Warcraft days (Scarlet Crusade represent!), my two mains were a human mage, Jeslyn, and a Belf priest, Melie. Friends on both factions put those together and I became known as Jeslie. I liked how it sounded, so it’s stuck for mumblemumble years.
The avatar is from the holiday light festival at my local zoo. Of all the gorgeous things they put up, the butterfly is my second-favorite, but it fit in a frame more neatly than their dragon!
Nice backstory and love the world of warcraft story
I carried a sketchbook around with me all day every day at school. Friends would ask to peek at whatever I was sketching. This being the late 90s and early 2000s, a lot of my cartoons were quite silly and “random” in nature (Invader Zim was quite big in my friend group). Sometimes friends would write commentary or reactions to the sketches before handing them back to me, and one of them happened to be “Tyler is random.”
It’s a little cringe-inducing now, but that’s bound to happen when you’ve been online for this many years, right?
love the backstory that you have.
I don’t think it’s cringe-inducing at all, I think it’s a nice throwback to a time when it sounds like you were pretty happy.
I wanna say that I saw your profile picture on some other website a long time ago, but I can’t remember where. I wish I saved it if I knew it was an uncommon picture.
Was it 8tracks? Because it’s the only other place I can find it if I search, and that’s also my account
Never heard of that place, but did a reverse image search and that’s the only exact match I found. I guess I probably saw one that was very similar and didn’t compare for exactness
I love this thread! It’s fun to read the motivation or history behind everyone’s chosen username and icon.
Back in 2005, I was offered a job at the corporate headquarters of the company where I worked. As a result, many of my friends began to tease me about becoming another white-collar drone, or a corporate “Yes” man. So as a joke, I renamed my Xbox Live Gamertag to CorporateClone and it just stuck.
The origin of the icon is a bit older. When Halo 2 launched in '04, I helped form a clan and played online almost daily. That game has limited appearance customization with shoulder logos and a small color palette. My shoulder logo was a generic gas mask closed in a circle and my color scheme was white armor with red logos.
Sometime, much later, I combined my original Halo 2 logo and color scheme with the CorporateClone identity and used Photoshop to create my own, custom logo that I’ve used ever since. Hence the gas mask with a shirt collar and tie.
Strawhat refers to my favorite fictional character of all time, “Strawhat” Luffy from One Piece, and it also refers to his crew, the Strawhat Pirates which I all love. If I had the choice to eliminate all fiction except for one, I would keep One Piece.
He was a character that I looked up to when I was a kid, and the show itself gave me tons of joy at a time when I was frequently bullied and often ostracised for my appearance. The show gave me “friends” when I had none in real life, and I always counted Luffy as my best friend as a kid. One of the best compliments I’ve ever received as an adult was when a kid told me that I reminded him of Luffy. Almost made me shed a tear LOL
His loyalty towards his friends, his compassion to help people, and his ambition to improve himself are all things that really shaped me as a person. No other fictional character has had that much of an impact on me.
