I just learned that in the UK SEGA did a whole promotional piece in…Penthouse. :scream:

You can read about it HERE. Don’t worry, there’s no naighty bits at the link.

I may have to track this mag down. You know, for research…

Oh yeah, happened across this one the other day [PG13ish…?]

This for a Nintendo thing ?! Sheesh, this guy has it all

I have so many feelings about this one and no idea how to articulate any of them.

While technically not for a video game (it’s a promo for the UK’s Sonic The Comic) this just works on so many levels.

Forever grateful modern devices can be enjoyed at any time of day without extra accessories. Trying to play Pokemon in bed by the light of my tiny nightlight is one of my earliest memories.

Another great, slightly cheeky, ad from SEGA.

Doc’s cleaning kits and accessories. Never heard of these. That AC adaptor for Game Boy seems particularly useful.

I had a Game Gear when I was little, and we very quickly got a AC adaptor because the battery life was…unimpressive. Game Boy was a lot better than that one, at least

I was actually wondering one day, if anything modern even takes batteries anymore. The DS and such have chargers now, which is convenient

Every handheld back then was worth getting an AC adaptor for playing at home, and a car adaptor for playing in the car. Batteries didn’t last as long back then as they do now. I was amused by a video that tested the battery life of the 3DS when it first released in comparison to the Game Gear… and the Game Gear lasted longer, despite its infamy for draining batteries quick. It turned out 2010s batteries have a lot more juice in them than 1990s batteries did.

The differences between the Famicom and NES box art is kinda wild. Also just learned today there was a Black Box cover too.

They make it sound like the Legend of Zelda has no music or sound effects

I’ve played it; it clearly does !

Interestingly, the back of the box in English never mentions Link’s name. It’s like they wanted people to be confused.

Also interestingly, the Japanese box you posted there is for the Famicom version of the game, released in 1994. Originally it was released as a launch title for the Famicom Disk System in 1986. (They made a regular NES version of the game for NA and PAL releases in 1987.)

The Disk System release used the same cover art. But note how they add a “1” to the title for the Famicom release. Wanted to make sure it was clear which entry this was.

I am saying that for years!

I have memories of playing my beat to hell gray og gameboy with no back plate and battery acid getting on my fingers.

That green screen displaying tetris was worth the burns!
