Sometimes you just need good news

The fact that the book banning even happened in the first place is insane. Hopefully this will be the first step in the journey of kicking the idiots behind it out of any kind of position of power

Sadly US Americans have been banning books since they became Americans.

Yeah, you’d think that after the Enlightenment and two World Wars that kind of thing would stop, but oh well…

So much BS over a sandwich.

I enjoy that average people on a grand jury said no to that bullshit.

That’s a hell of an overreach. The invasiveness of various governments’ digital plans of that has been shocking, and most - like the UK’s “anti-porn” setup - just don’t work.

I wish this would also be the case for other oversized trucks and cars, but unfortunatly more of them are seen here in my city each year. Kind of funny though to see them struggle in some of our narrow streets and not finding parking space that fits their size and even struggling to park in a parking garage.

They struggle to fit in lanes over here! I cannot even imagine how bad it is trying to drive a supersize truck down a tiny cobblestone road in Europe lmao. I definitely feel schadenfreude when I watch videos of them trying to park online hahaha.

Ok, let’s be fair here, Germany also has some massive motorways with some of the widest lanes and best maintained surfaces in the world. And BMW, VW and Mercedes are major contributors to the massive car problem. They all make SUVs that absolutely dwarf similar vehicles form a few years ago, and while they might struggle driving in the old parts of the larger cities, they aren’t struggling to get around anywhere else. Take a drive in the area round Munich and you’ll know exactly what I mean.

But the trend does bother me, and I wish we’re not moving in the “every car is now bigger” direction that, sadly, even Europe has embraced.

You see this in England as well. Some knob a few blocks from us owns a Dodge Ram. I’ve no idea how he gets anywhere as our regular sized hatchback can be a struggle to get through the streets. I’d hate to think what would happen if a police van, ambulance or fire engine were coming the other way.

Fun tip, don’t get hit by one of these massive American trucks while walking down the street. It fucking sucks!

I have one big American car often parking nearby and I stood in front of the car while it was parked. It’s so high that it would just smash you; with other cars, at least you’d have a chance of rolling over the front and surviving.

I wonder what the view from inside is like and how much of the area around the car you can’t see. I also would need stairs to be able to get in it.

But you don’t need an American truck to cause harm. Earlier in the year, a Mercedes ran me and my walking aid over. I am not a small person; I was wearing bright colours, my walking helper is huge, and I had colourful bags on it. The female driver was reversing out of a parking space and only stopped when I started screaming. Luckily, she only knocked over my walking companion and my bags, which dropped to the ground. I wasn’t hurt, just shocked. She said she ‘didn’t see me’, and looking at her car, I could see how she could have missed us. She drove me home, apologising profusely, but I feel all cars are slowly turning into tanks.

Ironically I just discovered what happens if a truck strikes you in the chest instead of a vehicle taking you out at the legs and I’ve been debating how much worse it would have been for me, 197cm, to be clipped at the legs. Instead I was hit in the chest and thrown two metres. As horrible as it was, I might have been lucky it wasn’t a car or much smaller pickup or SUV. That’s not advocating for big trucks, because I’d have preferred if it didn’t happen at all regardless of vehicle. Not fun.

OMG, I wish you a speedy recovery! That’s awful! Sending the biggest virtual hug! Of course not getting hit is the best - but no matter how the car hits you, being still here with us is the important part. I hope you get the best care possible and pampered by everyone around you!

I’m doing ok. I’m lucky. I’m trying my best to avoid screens on doctor’s orders due to the head trauma for about a week. But I might try to share my thoughts on what happened during one of our next podcast episodes (not the next which is already recorded, but the following). It’s quite the story.
