Yeah, if you wanted to. No big deal either way.

Picked up a 120 year old table today.

After some research Ive narrowed down its age to about a 10 year gap.

Its a Sears and Robuck Co treadle sewing table, however it doesnt have the machine or correct top. The legs are wrought iron, and the mechanisms still work smoothly.

It is supposed to have iron caster wheels, which are missing, but these are an option only from 1895 to 1930 on home sewing machines. It has the brackets for them still. Beyond that having the Sears and Robuck Co on the sides was only on the earliest models, from 1901 to 1910. So its about 120 years old at minimum.

Current plan is to refresh the top, which is solid wood, but has a slight warp to it. I think its maple…but im not fully sure with the staining.

Depending on how complex disassembling the legs and mechanism is I may also refinish the legs.

Small update.

Fixed the warp in the top with several trips through a planer. Stained it a couple days ago. This morning painted the center black square, trying to emulate that old writing desk with felt insert look.

Used chalk marking paint, which is usually semi permanent, but if ypu clear coat it itll stay forever. Has a unique look and texture compared to just a matte black spray paint.

Also stripping paint off the legs and such. But thats taking a bit. More rust than expected, and chips in the paint, but no pitting which is good

Not really a project. The bumpers of one of my controllers broke a while ago while playing a parry-heavy game (either Sekiro or Nine Sols, can’t remember). Last weekend I went to my library’s makerspace to 3D print a replacement

It seems to work well enough, although sometimes it gets stuck. I think I need to scale it up a bit.

Edit:

Welll…this project just took a huge pivot. I had it leaning at a 45 angle against my balcony rail so I could paint the side and it slid. Landed on the side and the top split along a knot line. Faaaantastic.

So im working on a new plan that doesnt require putting more money into it. Anything more and ill be out any profit

Dumped the side table. Ended up not being salvagable after the top split. I tried a couple things but kept running into new problems. Anyway

Started on this today. Believe its about 1950s or 60s farm cabinet. Hardware and locks are from about that time at least. Build is a bit odd, like it was made from scraps. I dont feel like it was made by a company but I could be wrong.

Kind of tangentially project-related, but for Pride Month I’ve emerged from my cocoon and made a thread about what the early stages of HRT have been like for me, as well as a couple of small updates on my upcoming fiction. c:

Didn’t get much done for about a week cause covid. But the last couple days have been productive.
I was struggling with the side panels, so theyve been replaced fully. Made a new solid bottom for it, and built the box in the bottom that is replacing the badly damaged drawer that was there.

At this point im basically in sand land for a couple days.

Oh my first short story is out! It’s a horror story. You can read it on my dinky little neocities page.

I’ve been told it’s brutal so if you’re squeamish- please read the content warnings up top before you decide to read!
