Not my project but it is super cool:
Built these for work over the past couple weeks to replace some older ones that were falling apart. The left one has 2 pull out shelves and a drawer hidden in the plywood base. Right is much simpler. My color matchin sucks but i had to use scrap materials soooo.
Honestly, I’m a little worried about the word count, as after all the extra stuff is included (bibliography, intro, notes, etc) it reaches a little over 68K. It was supposed to be 60K
This was my experience with my last novel. Didn’t have a certain wordcount in mind, and then I hit 80k words and I went “oh, I’m…I’m nowhere near done, uh oh.” Wound up being 130k words lmao I understand the anxiety about it.
130K. Wow.
Thankfully they didn’t end up asking me to cut anything. It’s done with proofreading now so it’s another step closer to publication. Not sure what the next step is, maybe laying out the text and images for print?
What’s the drawer/door faces coated with on the first aid station cabinet? It looks like it’s some kind of cloth or something.
Its a PLAM material, like they use on countertops sometimes. Its a pattern style thats supposed to look like a fabric. Comes in a bunch of colors. The other one is textured micro dot which i like a lot, very tactile feel.
That’s a cool idea. I know you can get custom Formica countertops done. That might be kind of fun to make some cabinets with some really dumb looking drawer faces on them.
Heavy tho. I like to do patterned interiors of drawers, and then a different solid bottom or something. Done that several times at home.
You all bored at work and just feel like making some cool stuff? You think you could hinge the table top in there somehow? I love the idea of mobile workstations. I bought one of those bora centipede things thinking it would be something I could just flip out on the driveway and cut up some sheet goods with. It’s kind of cumbersome to setup though. Something like this that flips out quickly and doesn’t take up much space is the dream.
Na, its for actual work lol. I just suggested it as something that can be stored away when we dont need it. If we have time between jobs we are allowed to build stuff for the shop and on occasion personal projects. Theyre pretty cool with us doing stuff that helps with organizations and efficiency.
The flipping top is something im working on next, id also like to make one a little taller. This is a little short for me, but i used some plans i found. I can shoot em to you if you want but its pretty basic, just measurments and sample pics. I had to kind of puzzle out how it went togather, and the measurments dont line up exactly so i had to trim some stuff down
That’s pretty neat. But do you have to keep the sheet of plywood that serves as the table top in storage seperately? I wonder if there is a way you could integrate it.
Oh wait, is the top what you’re reffing to here?
I didn’t read that until I commented. Would be awesome if it is what you meant.
Yeah, integrated top. Im thinking piano hinges and split the top in half, have it flip over once open, then find some way to lock it down. But i dont know if itll work yet, most of the stability comes from the solid top. Hence prototype lol
Folding table update:
Made a Mark II that has much cleaner edges, more sanding work and such, so its closer to a finished project. I cant find a way to integrate the top still. The main issue im finding is that the middle has no support so it tends to sag when not a solid piece. Ive got another idea i may check into if i cann find hinges.
Mark 3.
Clear coated, laminated top. This one is taller, about 3 ft. Still no integrated top, still cant find a good way to support the middle. Debated doing two metal pipes, one smaller than the other that could slide togather, and cover the gap between the sides to offer middle support on a folding top. Probably wont be building another for a while.
Working on a simple desk now. Got slotted legs to store my folding table, the top slides under the top taller section. Drawer on one side, flippy top on the other.
Dude, if you lived in the UK I’d be hitting you up for SO much stuff!
The digital proof of my History of SEGA book arrived this week. It looks pretty great. Just going through to see if any adjustments need to be made.
I still can’t quite believe it.
I appreciate the kind words, but im not that good lol. I do okay, for simple things.
Well, I literally struggle to put a shelf up straight, even with a spirit level.
