I think last year, I was noticing a lot of Skeletons and wondering why that wasnāt a category
Scarecrowsā¦offhand, I think the Shantae series, certain Castlevania games, certain Batman games, Animal Crossing: New Horizons have those; donāt know how helpful that would be. Wizard of Oz too
I did think that might be one of the harder ones to find
When I saw Scarecrow, the first game that popped into my head was Stardew Valley. Other than that, I donāt have any other suggestions. Itās definitely a tough one.
Edit: @NIQ_m2 How could I have forgotten Animal Crossing???
Edit 2: Now that Iām thinking on it, there might be some in the Elder Scrolls or a Plague Tale.
Edit 3: Also maybe Dragon Age: Origins and Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons.
Scarecrow ended up being one of the hard ones I found last year. It ended up being by chance in Halloween Forever. I couldāve counted a Batman game, but I didnāt play it for the challenge.
Iām always up for being more flexible than constrictive and Iād say since it is a game, sure. That category option is hard enough to find apparently as it stands.
There were so many monsters that aligned with this challenge so I might actually complete all the prompts! That will literally be a first for me. Iām always starting challenges and never finishing them. I wasnāt sure whether I could count Cat for this one as there are clearly feline creatures in this game but they are not considered cats but coeurls.
I finally got to play Shaman King: Power of Spirits, which is the one I wanted to use for GHOST. But, this may have worked out better anyway
Shaman King was always one of my favourites back in the day, but for whatever reason Power of Spirit was a console-exclusive so I never got to play it until now
Iāve played a couple games as of late that would fit the challenge and some categories, but I donāt see myself really ramping up until October. Iāve got a list going to rip through when it does hit though.
I think even if I complete all the prompts, Iām going to keep completing the challenges until time runs out. Itās a fun little motivator to get through my backlog. I just hope we have more fun challenges once this one is over.
Iāve been playing Luigiās Mansion (Gamecube version) lately. Itās an interesting one, though I wish they could have tutorialized and explained things a lot better. I had to look up guides online to figure out how to do some basic stuff / figure out what to do right from the get-go. Iāve cleared the first area, and released a bunch more ghosts throughout the mansion.
Plenty of ghosts in this one, obviously. Among them are some ghost bats, so Iāll cross off bats as well. Not sure if there will be other monsters, but Iāll hope for some Halloween decor at least. (Pumpkin? Graveyard? Scarecrow?)
Finished playing Inscryption as part of my halloween challenge! What a good cards game on switch Had a blast! I think Iāll continue casually playing this all halloween long ^^ā Specially Kayceeās mod
I might re-play Luigiās Mansion next month [October], because theyāre doing it for the monthly book club thing
And I need to play Luigiās Mansion 2 at some point too; I could never get into that one. By the time I play it for real, theyāll probably be re-making it for Switch
And I played Luigiās Mansion 3 when it came out; that was good. Luigi was in it
I was hoping to use one of the The Mummy games on Game Boy for the bonus category MUMMY, but I canāt seem to get into them very muchā¦well, I guess they are movie-licensed titles, after all
I just discovered the movies this year and thought, they would make a great games, you know, what with all of the action and fighting and fighting Mummies and saving librarians and even the bases self-destructing at the end. It made me think of something like Doom or Castlevania
Then someone told me there was a Scorpion King game on GBA made by WayForward that looked like it was OK, but I guess this is only tangentially related
I was surprised to find a challenge in this one. I needed to complete something to fend off some anxiety and this title was filed away in my short games (1-5 hours) collection on Steam. Figured it was time to finally get around to it and I was awarded for doing so!
Ended up playing Luigiās Mansion long into the night to finish the game. With 100,660,000 gold, I just barely managed to get an A Rank, landing Luigi a nice non-haunted mansion! It is now canon, Luigi is as rich as royalty. Perhaps heās the one most suited to marry a princess⦠(Get back to your plumbing 9 to 5, Mario.)
Overall I found this one interesting and fun, but rather clunky. Even in the last part of the game, it still felt arbitrary whether the ghost-catching would work or not for meā¦
Now Iāll get back to my PS2 horror gaming, returning to Cold Fear.
Cold Fear is an odd game, and I donāt think itāll land me many categories in the Halloween challenge. Zombies and⦠killer, I guess. (I mean, Iāve killed a bunch of not-zombie people ā supposedly mercenaries, Wikipedia tells me.) Perhaps there will be some monster bosses later onā¦
Crazy physics in this game for the time. The swaying of the boat, the wind and the water of the storm, and all the detailed character animations (reacting to all this stuff) are very impressive for PS2. A real samey-ness to the environments though, and I donāt know if anything about this is really going to ever feel scary.
