Halloween Gaming Challenge 2023! 🎃

So far, I’ve played Dr. Chaos, and Skeleton Krew and they are both okay, with the latter being a bit too unfair imo. I 'm able to get some boxes checked with both, but don’t plan on revisiting them any time soon.

I re-played Double Dragon Neon this time because I wanted something relaxing/easy. You could say it’s kind of seasonal because there is a graveyard, and jiang-si, and the main antagonist is a Skeleton. He’s quite a character; and is relatable in some respects

I actually didn’t like this one at first because I didn’t understand you have to level up your fellow, like in River City Ransom. After that, it became one of my favourites. I like the light-hearted tone, and Linda

If you like this title, you should check out Double Dragon Advance for GBA if you can. One of the betters ones in the series.

Neon is a fantastic title also which is surprising because WayForwards humor has rarely resonated with me, but the jokes here are tuned just right.

All done with Cold Fear, and I also played through Monster Party on the NES (or at least, as far as I cared to).

Monster Party is a classic spooky action-platformer that I’ve dabbled with many times over the years, but never really tried to beat. I got to stage 6 of 8, and decided I’d had my fill (and Youtube’d the rest). It’s a game that doesn’t play great, but the aesthetic is delightful.

There were bats, a cat monster boss, ghosts, a boss with a jack-o-lantern head, all sorts of monsters, some clever tricks (and treats… that shrimp tempura boss lol), vampires, witches, and zombies (which dance). I don’t recall seeing a graveyard anywhere, or a werewolf or scarecrow. I’m not surprised by the lack of scarecrows, but I’m a bit baffled by the lack of werewolves! Where my wolf boys at, awooooo~

I decided to not count the killer/murder category because it was all a dream???

As for Cold Fear… Yeah, not the best PS2-era survival horror. Vaguely Resident Evil 4-ish (same year), but not nearly as fun or scary. And a real letdown for the ending tbh. Still very impressed by the boat physics though.

I ended up with just zombies, monsters, and murder for that game.

I think there are just two games left that I really want to try to finish by Halloween, and then we’ll see if there’s time for anything else afterward. Next up for PS2… the infamous Rule of Rose.

Challenge Combo [COMPLETE] - Haunting | Jack O’ Lantern | Killer
Devour (Steam, 2021)

I played a round of Devour last weekend with friends as it’s been sitting in my Steam library collecting dust. I’ve played it before but it didn’t really sit with me so to get in the spooky spirit and to dust some oldies off the backlog, I invited my friends to try it with me again. I nearly forgot to post about it here since I didn’t actually “beat” the game but seeing as it’s a game where you replay the levels over and over, I decided to include it for the challenge. The level we played was the Farmhouse. Sadly I don’t recall seeing a scarecrow but if we play more this weekend, I will keep an eye out for one. Thanks to the Halloween event going on, there’s also Jack O’ Lantern collectibles to find, so that helped mark another one off the list.

Not sure who plays or is still playing but the Fall Festival just started in Cozy Grove, and I just couldn’t help but jump back in for some good old collectathoning with a few more “spookier” items and atmosphere. I imagine I could prolly check off most of the items with what I will see with just this game but where is the fun in that.

I’ll be heading to Disney World tomorrow morning, but I plan on bringing my Switch and 3DS just in case, or for later in the evening when the park is closed. I’ve been playing games relevant here and there but have decided at this point to not unveil my full list until the end.

Finally got around to playing/beating Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, after all these years ! I like Luigi’s Mansion 1, but always had trouble getting into this one

There are GHOSTS in it, so it is seasonal

So I managed to find something in BG3 that fits every criteria, except for a scarecrow. I’m trying pretty hard to see if maybe there’s one somewhere and I just missed it. I know it’s not exactly in the spirit of the challenge but it has been fun to see if I could find every element within this one game.

I think that being able to find every element in one game is certainly in the spirit, although quite difficult.

Interestingly enough, I recently learned that the Thwomp is considered a ghost. That’s odd

It probably could, or a new thread started. I dont believe Prin is around anymore though, so someone might have to step up to set it up.

I could probably come up with something fun, but i wouldnt personally want to do the same challenge again, so it depends what people would want to do i suppose.

Na, i got it. Ill set it up later this evening. I may not participate directly, but my personal Halloween challenge will probably hit most of it anyway
