i am all for this. unionization is my example for a theme, but baseline i am interested in the zine just happening
hi hi! I can help with art and design! I am a writer but it seems like more people are needed on the art/design front?
i’ll put you down for art/design but feel free to pitch a piece if you’re interested. i have some design experience (through adobe’s program which i’m forgetting the name of) so you definitely won’t be alone.
I’d also agree with @anon30672897 in that the whole “the radical values of Grouvee” thing is a… strange way of putting it?
Maybe it should be changed to the groovy values of Grouvee? :)))
If the theme is going to be unions, I’m out. I don’t know much about the subject, certainly not enough to write about it.
Also, I’ve been lucky enough to live in countries where unions are actively promoted and workers aren’t victimised for being on them. I’ve no idea how they work/ don’t work in that other hellscape that I believe people are discussing.
I would still be fine to help with art. Not sure if my throwing my hat in the ring for that was missed initially?
i did overlook that initially. i’ll switch you over on the OP. we have no set theme yet and it is still questionable if we’ll go with a theme deeper than a celebration of the Grouvee community.
yippee!!! I will do my very best. Do we have a folder or doc for ideas and planning yet? happy to make one if it’d be helpful!
we’re doing a little recruiting period now. i’ll DM everyone once we get our core team together.
I’d contribute some art if the theme inspires me. No worries if you’ve got all you need already!
i was waiting for you to offer
. i’ll add you to the team
Can I join for writing on just half the subject? Ie, how interested is the rest of the team in writing about unions happening in non-gaming areas?
the unionization theme is just what i am pitching. i’ll put you on the team and you can help us figure out our theme/lack of theme
The question still applies to other subjects though, basically: how gaming-centred you all want the zine to be?
Add me and maybe I can have a peek to get the overall mood
I’m with @BMO in voting for no theme for the first issue. The first one will probably be more to learn the ropes.
I agree. No theme for the first one. If we must have one, I like the community idea. We can move on to the hard-hitters once our zine muscles get bigger.
BMO and I were talking and his solution is wait until pitches and see if a theme naturally occurs, otherwise we can go themeless this go around.
Let me play devil’s advocate here and ask who’s the target of this zine? If it’s only the community, then I don’t see an issue with having no themes, but if the target audience is larger than that, then having a focussed theme could help extend the influence spectrum to whoever might be interested in that particular theme.
For an inaugural issue, I’d say the community. We are going to need to feel this out a bit and see where it goes. I think aiming for an external market might be a next steps kind of thing after we see how an initial issue pans out. For something that’s entirely volunteer driven, it might be good to start casual and low stakes, and then work up from there if people are really invested in doing so.
Hello everyone. As per the recent discussion, we have put together a GrouZine Submission Proposal form. For those interested in collaborating on the Zine please visit the submission link and send in your pitch! All ideas are welcome, providing they can fit on the pages (virtual or printed) of a Zine. We have also included a handful of questions to identify people interested in participating in layout and design, or who want to join the Editorial Committee and collaborate on GrouZine decisions, so if you don’t necessarily want to submit a specific work, you’re still welcome to participate.
Submissions will be open until the 4th of April, so if you don’t have an idea quite yet, you have time to mull over some ideas.
GrouZine Submission Proposal Form
Deadline for proposal submissions: Friday 4 April 2025
Just sent a proposal, which would likely be the 5th proposal I’ll have to write from here to end of June. Any expected/desired word count?
