Grouvee’s Official Animal Crossing: New Horizons Discussion Thread and General Hangout

My campsite has been empty since adopting the mandatory first one except for visitors I scan from Amiibo cards. Am I supposed to get random visitors?

So far I’ve had one campsite visitor. They can replace an existing villager if you invite them to stay, but the villager they replace is random. I haven’t seen another camper after that and it’s been about a week.

Today’s crafting: Silos! 12x iron, 12x clay, 12x stone, 12x hard wood = £13.5k or £27k if it’s a hot item.

It’s amazing how few bugs there are when Flick is in town …

I finally saw some shooting stars and finally built a wand. Now to buy extra chinos to finish creating my registered outfits.

Congrats! The wand is still a little frustrating, but it’s better if you have a lot of clothing. So, early game, it kinda sucked.

Also…what is happening on the main Grouvee feed? :weary:

Peter make us moderators! Let us kick out the trolls like they are one of the jock villagers in AC.

I’m really sorry about all that. I’m going to work on building a flagging system this weekend. I got rid of 4 accounts that were spewing all the racist, misogynistic shit. I’ve never built any formal tools because everyone is normally so awesome on this site, but it’s getting big enough that I need to get something out there that the community can help with.

Not your fault. Having something for the future would help, though. I honestly didn’t even realize there wasn’t a report button until this happened because it’s never been a problem since I joined the site.

I know when my boyfriend and I started dating he was like, “You don’t get a bunch of weird messages? On a gaming website?” Haha. The community here is great.

Like @peter said, there has been very little need for it. Normally things like this happen very infrequently and are caught fairly quickly. That doesn’t mean there is no need for it, but as you say the community is great. If one of the admins doesn’t initially catch it, Grouvee members bring it to our attention. Grouvee is quite possibly one of the friendliest, most welcoming communities I think many of us have experienced on the internet. It’s a rare and wonderful thing.

I was talking to one of my friends about this.
I’m not really sure how I feel about Nintendo’s decisions with this game in regards to releasing “content.” I’ve been waiting to hear for sure about the museum expansion/Redd, but like, why should I be wondering if parts of the series that have been around since the beginning are gonna be included? Why is this stuff being released later? Are they stretching it out because they don’t plan to ever make another one and want people to play for a long time?
At least they aren’t making it paid DLC, but it’s getting a little frustrating, even if I don’t feel like there’s been a lack of stuff to do.
Maybe it’s all only because they were adding new features and wanted to get the game out on time after it was already delayed before, I dunno.

They have indicated that content will be rolled out over time for two reasons, to provide regular updates that allow for a sense of progression and gradual evolution of the island, and because they want to prevent content being available all at once and accessible via time traveling. I think the latter is the main reason, so that people who time travel don’t get to spoil all of the content, be it seasonal or not, for people who want to play at the pace of the game.

I quite like it, I love the fact that there are surprises for us every month that we can get excited about. It also means I am not overloaded with things to do and can warm up to the new content gradually.

See, that’s the thing. It was already gradual before. As Mayor in NL, it was up to you to meet goals and then be able to expand the town by adding museum expansions, new shops, the cafe, big decorations around the town (like lighthouses, benches, etc.). But at least in previous games, I knew most of what to expect because, even if there were new additions, the old stuff wasn’t made to look like it was completely gone just because you were waiting to expand. It didn’t bother me with Bunny Day/the cherry blossom festival, but having to wait to see if characters like Brewster or Redd or Kapp’n are even going to exist in this iteration just isn’t really acceptable to me. (This doesn’t apply to changes like Brewster having his own building in NL as opposed to being attached to the museum in City Folk. That sort of thing is whatever.)

And time travelling has always been an option. The way they handled Bunny Day by making it available only if you connected to the internet is perfectly fine, and understandable. People have always been able to cheat for event stuff. The only reason it’s an issue now is because so many new people are playing it and social media has blown up with it. They’re just punishing long time players and I’m not okay with it. This isn’t letting me advance my island at my own pace (and NOT time traveling). It’s limiting what I can even access until they decide to release it.

Meanwhile, animal interactions have taken a major hit, and my villagers say the same three things every day, never give me errands, etc. A huge part of the way you interact with animal villagers is gone.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m still playing it every day and loving it. I just feel like a lot of the decisions they made are a slap in the face to longtime players like myself who have expectations for RETURNING content. It’s not even about wanting new things.

(Also not trying to be argumentative with you, bmo. This content update just made me frustrated more than excited the more I thought about it.)

Also, I DO really like the idea of the additional Nook Miles goals, like the one for Earth Day. Those types of things are perfect for updates or internet-limited events. I’m totally game for those. That’s the kind of added content I’d expect, because I was wondering what was going to happen once I eventually hit all of the starter goals.

That’s fair. I think that everything in previous games is coming, it’s just on a schedule. I guess they didn’t anticipate that people would be worried it was missing. I don’t think any of it will be missing in the end.

I also think the decision to do it this way to prevent time travellers from spoiling things was made before there was any idea that this game would explode on social media the way it has.

Mostly I think it was a design and content delivery decision, whereby they decided that incremental updates suited this particular iteration of the game. I can appreciate that it affects the way you like to play the game. I suppose no matter what they did it would go against someone’s preferred play style. Regardless I empathize that it throws a spanner in the works for you.

Regarding animal interactions, I think it’s just a matter of progressing your relationship with them. I am at point where they say quite a lot of new things, as well as provide new interactions such as sending me to give something to another villager, asking me to catch them a specific fish, sending me on treasure hunts, requesting to buy things that I’m holding, and more. I think these are just things that unfold over time.

Ultimately I also think that one they roll out all the content a new player would be able to progress how they like without waiting for these updates. So maybe that experience will be very different from the one at release.

A part of me wonders if Nintendo wants Animal Crossing to be Fortnite-esque in its ability to stay in the headlines. If they roll out an update every two weeks (pun avoided) then AC consistently pops up in game news and consistently has bonkers sales.

That also makes sense. I think to a degree, we no longer live in a time where a company drops a game and is done with it. Especially for any game trying to be your primary digital home. Increments are the way to go. I won’t lie, I love that I’ll get a little treat from Nintendo every month letting me know there’s something fun to expect.
