Grouvee’s Official Animal Crossing: New Horizons Discussion Thread and General Hangout

Decided to try the Turnip Exchange and today. It went pretty smoothly and I doubled my initial investment, which is a sight better than what I would get on my own island today.

Thank you , I’d love a cherry blossom wand <3 ;__;

What @Octjillery said. I think.
I’ve seen a couple on clear regular nights on my island. I’ve only seen meteor showers on my friends’ islands funnily enough. I’ve seen people online mention that the shooting stars have their own distinctive ‘twinkle’ sound effect, as an indicator of when to look up.

They definitely make a sound. Once I had my first meteor shower I realized there were several nights where I heard the sound, was confused by it, and then promptly dismissed it as my imagination.

I have one for you. I can send you a friend invite on Switch and then maybe I can add you in game and send you the wand by mail, or we can coordinate another time one of us has our gates open.

I didn’t even know this Turnip Exchange was a thing! Seems like a lot of work kind of.

I made some money on the market last week. I think I bought my turnips at around 95 or so and sold them for about 150 I think. I decided to check the next day what the prices were, and they were at 411. I’m really good at timing things.

I was mostly just curious how it works, and I was kind of impressed. I don’t think it’s something I’d do weekly.

This morning I woke up and if I had sold on my island I would have made a slight profit. By the afternoon I would have lost almost half of what I invested. This is why I sell the moment I will make anything, I don’t like the prospect of gambling it away.

Which types of flowers does everyone have? I have tulips and pansies, with windflower and hyacinth seeds showing up at Nook’s Cranny periodically. Anyone have anything different?

Mostly pansies, windflowers, and mums, and sometimes tulips.
I miss the cosmos. :frowning:

I have recipes that need cosmos so they are definitely about. I’ll investigate what I have. Mostly roses, pansies, tulips. Loads of pink and orange roses, and one black one!

Sometimes the hot item is hardly worth the effort. 15 ring toss… 14.4k bells. I could have made more than that in other stuff in less time. Oh well!

Agreed. I think in the end you’re always making the same off resources, but some items have enough variety in the recipe that they sell for quite a lot. I think each hearth sells for more than 10k, so making a decent amount quickly is possible.

yeah a hearth is over 5k even at the base price so when it’s a hot item it’s well worth it. It’s somewhat worth it for quickly converting mats to bells even when it’s not tbh

That’s a fair point, definitely a good way to make a quick profit if you are low on funds.

I’m stockpiling resources and only selling when I can make a worthwhile hot item. That way I always benefit from the double price. I know it means waiting longer to profit, but I’d rather have more resources ready for when a really good hot item is in demand than have used those resources on something else.

Dom is a pretty cute villager (except when he speaks). It’s a shame they wasted such a great villager design on a jock. Can’t wait to ship him out

I’ve got pansies on my island, tulips on mystery islands. My shop sold hyacinth seeds the first day and never again since lol (too bad I was poor my first day). Shop sells windflower seeds too.

I know lilies are a thing, but I have not seen a single one tf. I hope we get to see carnations again too… Sorta sad about no bushes, because I really love hydrangeas.

BTW, Nooklings are buying turnips today for 209 if anyone is interested. Sable hanging out in plaza. Dodo code is H1H6L. I’m prob gonna be around and online for most of the day.

The hyacinths will come back. They rotate in and out.

I’m assuming we’ll see more once Leif comes, and hopefully sets up his shop.
Then we can expect to get the bushes and more flower varieties.
I’m just not used to not having access to all flowers.
I think a lot of it was doing island tours in New Leaf and stockpiling fruit and flowers from the different “games.”
I had a whole system of “get all of the necessary flowers to pass the tour except one, fill pockets with flowers that I want, plant last flower, win.”
It helped to have the storage on the island, too.

My assumption was that we have to visit other people’s islands to find the rest of the flowers.

So my gold slingshot broke. It lasted five days. Five days during which I was probably shooting down a fifth of the balloons I was the week previous. My guess is that the golden slingshot lasts, at best, twice as long as the normal one.
