Oh yeah, I never dump points into thief during boss fights. Thieves have no boss utility. Thieves are highly situational. Their skill that allows them to pick up dropped crystals can sometimes be handy but eventually it doesn’t make a big long-term impact. I usually only spec them into the level that grants locksmith, and only for levels with a lock, and only for the first run. Their crystal increase from chest ability helps with some runs where you are initially strapped for resources, but that’s also situational and rare. Essentially unless I specifically need the thief during a level, I’m not allocating them any points. Other units, and Soh are priority.
Early on I thought thieves would be great. But more often than not, I bring them to unlock things or dig up some chests and then I immediately reassign them another role for combat.
I desperately wanted to leave all my points in upgraded units which was why I couldn’t wait to earn more points. But the non-destructive nature of re-speccing really makes the game friendly.
It’s really nice there’s no repercussion of reallocating them. Definitely makes the levelling more playful and flexible to learn new strategies or get familiar with more of the roles instead of relying on the same ones over and over. I try to use one of every type of role on the first run and readjust if I fail. If there are more units than roles, I balance the remaining units between the different combat roles.
Units are unlocked after boss battles. If you just finished Yuan Cavern then your next level is the Yuan Cavern boss, Mukadejoro. Have fun, it s a good one! Your unit reward is thr thief.
Woodcutters, positioned them right near it surrounding it, ignored anything attacking Yoshiro and just spammed attacks while doing my best to never get hit.
If you don’t focus too much on clearing every optional objective you’ll find it challenging but never excruciatingly so. The optional challenges can be tough but more manageable if you come back to them after moving along in the game.
Finished Yuminari Lake so I’m almost halfway through. Getting Soh’s archery skill made Kamaitachi a breeze. I beat it in 45 seconds when I went back to get the reward.
I think I just finished all the bonuses for Yuminari Lake so you’re about where I am! My progress has come to a crawl recently. Just been a bit more busier on the weekends or playing other games.
Well it’s about that time to start thinking about a topic for our next game. Since the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct just aired and the console release is right around the corner, I was thinking maybe our topic could be the Nintendo Switch library. But if y’all have any other suggestions or ideas, please say so before we lock in for the game nominations.
I don’t necessarily always want to play a game where I am committing myself to 15+ minutes of gaming, especially if Yoshiro dies midway through a level and I have to restart. That sometimes prevents me from picking it up.
The difficulty has definitely increased and I think that could also be a reason for me slowing down how often I pick it up. I’m not the best when it comes to strategy and my attention span diminishes if I have to try the same content repeatedly but so far it hasn’t been too bad. It’s just a “I’ll take a break and come back to this” and usually when I come back, I succeed in the challenge or bonus objective.
I don’t know if you’ve noted this, but the game saves both at the start of the day, and the start of the night during each run. So if you need to put it down, you safely can and come back at the start of the day or night where you left it off. Also if you fail, you don’t have to start over if you’ve already completed a day or two. You can start at the last save instead of the beginning. So if you clear an area and wipe, you’ll start back at the beginning of that night, you don’t have to go back to the start of the previous day. This fact made the game very accessible to me because starting a run didn’t mean having to commit to the full thing if I had to put the game down.
Also, I find it useful to aim for the main goal, getting Yoshiro to safety, as well as getting as many units as possible, and not focusing on optional goals. Optional goals are much easier the second time around when you have more time because you’re not using your time hunting for villagers.
