I have a recipie somewhere for the pasta, the chicken i kinda just threw seasonings at and baked. I dont tend to follow recipies too often, i frequently will modify them
So I’m making the main for Thanksgiving*, and I think I’ll do something other than turkey. I still have last year’s turkey in my freezer so we don’t eat enough of it to justify doing turkey (unless I get a free one from work which is what happened last year). Any non-turkey mains that y’all do on Thanksgiving?
*It’s a lie. I know. Just an excuse for my brother and my families to get together.
Honey Glazed Ham. Big one. That was our normal backup.
Alternatively slow cooker bbq. Lol
Tenderloin with something like a red wine reduction is always nice
Once I had to cook, and I don’t know how to cook a turkey, so I made stuffed shells
I’m bad at taking food photos, but I made Chantilly Potatoes today! My family loved it so I’m happy.
I decided to do a short rib. Made a test batch today. Turned out tasty but not exactly as I envisioned it. I think I could get it even more tender with another 30 minutes in the oven, and the sauce to not split with a little more time on the stove. Still, I ate two plus servings of this dish so it ain’t like I am turning my nose up or anything.
Made this recipe-
I communed with my ancestors and made a pot of the family recipe tonight.
Meatballs from scratch, oxtails, and fresh cavatelli and romano from the local pasta shop. All in all, pretty dang delicious.
i made this short rib. sitting on a mirepoix and mashed potatoes
im going to make this again on thanksgiving. give me any recs you got.
my daughter made Sohla’s Holiday Rocky Road cookies. It’s a very child friendly recipe- I only had to help her with cutting them.
Is it any good or just a wild sugar shit show lol? I have to make cookies next week for a party and I need something simple.
it is a wild sugar shit show but it does surprisingly come together. i enjoyed my half slice and will probably have a few more before we go through the whole loaf. it is, however, very sweet.
i think i may make Eric Kim’s Lemon Turmeric Crinkle cookies for a cookie exchange my spouse’s family is doing.
I’ve had those (or very similar ones, probably ginger-lemon crackle cookies?) and were amazing.
This video made me smile, more for the sweet energy of the baker than the cookies, but they seem to be delicious flavour explosions! I want that box of all the different cookies… NOW!
eric kim has a gentle calming energy. great dude. i made their matcha latte cookies last year! the cookies were great!
Got inspired by this thread and made Vaughn Vreeland’s Mexican hot chocolate cookies with my niece, they turned out really well! The hint of spice sets them apart from standard chocolate recipes, and I love how the molten marshmallows in the center kinda diffuse out and keep the whole cookie chewy, even after a couple nights in the fridge.
made this tonight.
i watched internet shaquille say something about how making the same dishes over and over again is a great way to get your practice in and to cement some dishes as your dishes. like my father in law asked for this today. he said to me “i love this food. its like the kind of food my father used to make for me.” and i think that’s beautiful.
also blanching is magical. you just watched these vegetables become vibrant in like two seconds. it feels impossible until you do it and this transformation happens before your eyes. wow!
