Breakfast in America is a killer album. It’ll make you believe Supertramp is better than Steely Dan.

And then there is me having to look up who Steely Dan is. The first song that pops up:

I definitely heard this before and it’s good, very good.

I wonder when did solos come out of fashion? Is it out of fashion or is it just in the music Spotify throws at me usually? I have to admit that listening to older songs I sometimes are surprised how long they are or how much song is without vocals. On the radio they often played shorter versions anyway.

When I was young I was / we were too poor to buy records, cassettes, CDs whatever and so I listened to the radio but never cared about who the artist/band was, because I had no use of that knowledge. I had to listen to what was being offered to me for free. We also had no TV for a long time and when we had one my access was for a long time very restricted so no MTV or alike for me either. Music was just sound, no picture, no video, no name, no drama. I only knew the most famous names, like Michael Jackson.

It never really changed. I still stumble onto songs, like them but immediately forget who the artist is. I also rarely ever have listened to whole albums because of that, just the two best songs out of an album that made the radio stations over and over. I guess I missed out on a lot. Kind of sad.

Today’s vibe.

On my Mix of the Week playlist on Spotify, there were six songs that were fully AI-generated. There was no name to be found, not even in the metadata. Three more had at least a name of a real person behind ‘the project’ openly making ‘AI music’. Then there were three extremely bad covers, but at least they were played and sung by proud human musicians, which rounded off the mess nicely. It was bad before, but today was a new low.

And to be fair to Spotify, the AI music did fit my taste, so much even that I got suspicious in the first place - seems I am easy to satisfy.

Some classic Australian pop frock from 1986. While originally written in response to the building of nuclear weapons, its message is still as relevant today as in the 1980s, if not moreso.

Best song produced for a video game of 2025, hands down, no contest, full marks, flying colours, no notes

Can we take a moment to appreciate how incredibly good this opening theme song was?

Can we now take another moment to acknowledge that it was a mistake to go with this stupid anime tradition of always needing a different theme song every season? I CANNOT STAND season 2’s theme song.

Had a boys night out on Saturday and had a very, very expensive dinner and saw the Little Women opera by Mark Adamo. I played it years ago, so it was nice to see it from the audience perspective.

It’s a lovely piece, here’s a gorgeous aria near the end:
