I wish I were listening to the Heavyweight podcast. Never fails to have me sobbing by the end of an episode. And host Jonathan Goldstein has an excellent sense of humor. I’m hoping they find a new home for the next season soon! Episodes | Heavyweight
I’ve discovered a whole genre on YouTube of these hour long mixes with titles like “Dungeon Synth” and “80s darkwave fantasy” that make for some nice, mellow background music.
I absolutely love the aesthetic. I’ll definitely check out the music and see if it hits.
Oh man, someone else likes Castle Rat? That’s awesome. I think I posted the video for Dagger Dragger further up thread. Love their sound.
They just don’t make music videos like this anymore.
This song is still so relevant, too.
There’s nothing quite like historical rap.
If Horrible Histories didn’t make it to your country, do yourself a favour and hit up YouTube.
Land Of Confusion … such a good song. I completely forgot how amazing the video for it was.
These kinds of muppets is very British, right? They had a satire show with puppets like this?
Yep. You’re probably thinking of Spitting Image who indeed did the puppets for that video.
Grammy thoughts?
Real talk, I don’t think Beyonce deserved it. I think Chappel deserved a lot more. What are your hot takes?
My grammy thought is that knitting is underrated. Kids these days. Would you like some fresh cookies? I made them with love. Also can you help me with this newfangled texting thing? You know Im not too good with these calculator things…computers? Oh yes computers…
I love knitting

I find the Grammy’s a confirmation that I am totally out of touch with music, that it is a disgusting display of excess while people in the world starve, and it is one of the biggest circle jerks in history, second only to the Oscars.
My hot take is that I wish more of the money went to other artists than the already richest and that this industry wasn’t plagued by people taking money from artists, be it Spotify or the major music labels or the whole ticket sales fiasco. These awards celebrate the industry as it is and for what it is and rarely seem to ask for change and that leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I guess a black woman winning Best Country Album is something, especially right now, and I’m happy for her and hope it’s a breakthrough for more artists of colour in that genre of music. It was about time.
Who “deserves” a Grammy is not something I can discuss, even though I often listen to mainstream music, I am usually at least a decade or two behind. Nor do I know what the criteria is for winning, other than “sold a lot”, which also means “got a lot of radio play”, which also means “has a label that paid a lot to get it played and promoted”.
So I would not have even recognised the award had it not been for Beyonce winning and it being a “first” and therefore in the news in Germany.
Are there smaller awards that focus more on music that isn’t just the Top 100 and the big names? Awards that are not so controlled by the music industry? I could see that being more interesting.
In Australia, independent radio station Triple J does a Hottest 100 each year. Being an indie station the number one spot generally goes to artists that don’t appear on “mainstream” stations.
I’ve no idea how recognised it is outside of Australia, but the artists generally seem pretty chuffed if they even place.
Triple J is awesome. I love Like a Version!
Also a couple Triple J hosts have been on Taskmaster Australia, so it might help boost its visibility outside the country.
