Ads block access to my shelf in multiple mobile browsers as shown here.
OK. I’ve got to work on manual ad placement anyway. I’ll see what I can do. In the meantime I’m tweaking adsense settings so they don’t put stupid ads like that up. I guess I had automatic experiments running, so they would put up different formats even though I don’t have them enabled. That’s for sticking around for 10 years!
I turned the ads off for now. I’ll probably deploy manual placement tonight or tomorrow, but I was using the site with ads turned on and it was doing the same thing to me. That’s crazy they’d have an ad system that would do that. Especially when I had basically all of the crappy ad types disabled. If you turn auto ads on, Google puts like 12 ads on a page by default. I swear that 1 or 2 well placed decent ads would make more money than just vomiting crap all over the page.
It appears we can no longer edit our comments. My spelling mistakes will haunt me forever.
Lol. I completely forgot to put that button on the new templates. I’ll get to it. I’m an idiot.
I figured hahahaha. I only just noticed it this week.
I think I fixed it. Give it a test!
Amazing work. Thank you. :))
I added a new exclusion filter to search and the master game list this morning. You can now exclude Ports, DLC, Expansions (different than Expanded Games), and Bundles. Let me know if there are other types you’d like to be able to filter out. Also let me know if you see any weird behavior. I think I got all the edge cases taken care of.
I just noticed that the randomizer button on the “New Shelf Style” seems to be missing. In addition, there is no way to keep the default sort order. If possible, please add these features to the new shelves.
As a seasoned veteran i’ve got over 20 entries to approve! i want a badge for this! ![]()
SO… if i understand right, i don’t actually have to do anything? (the notifications felt like a prompt that I needed to do something, but it seems that the suggested shelves are more wrong/less right, essentially)
Nope, you don’t have to do anything. On some of these games we’re merging, we’re merging from a very broad Giant Bomb entry into a more granular IGDB entry. For instance, Tekken 2 on Giant Bomb has all of the platforms listed, Arcade, PS1, PS3, PS4, PS5. IGDB has a main entry with just Arcade, and then ports and expanded versions. And then there’s ports of the expanded versions. It’s a little bit of a pain in the ass, but it lets people be specific. Anyway, when we merge in a situation like this, we merge into the main entry, and then notify everyone that had that game on a shelf that we might have picked the wrong one for them, and they can use the move tool real easy. If we picked right, you don’t do anything! If you don’t care, then you don’t do anything! ![]()
Sorry if we’re clogging up your notifications. You are definitely a seasoned veteran, and I appreciate you being around for so long and writing so many reviews over the years! Let me know if you have questions or suggestions.
Some of you might have noticed I deployed a new themes categorization for games today. It’s something that’s stored in IGDB, and it seems very helpful. It also will allow me to hide erotic games for some users that don’t want to see them. There’s a checkbox in the search dropdown and the filter form on games lists that says hide erotic games and is checked by default. Uncheck it and it will be stored in your browser locally that you want that box unchecked. I feel slightly nervous about all of the age verification nonsense going on in the US and the rest of the world. Grouvee ranks too highly in Google for way too many sex games. I’m totally fine with the games, I just would prefer to not draw attention to the games externally.
Also, if you’re into those kind of games, you’ll be able to find them a little easier now
As always, feel free to let me know what you think!
This explains why suddenly the spicy games weren’t popping up when trying to add them to lists.
Sorry! I’m not actually trying to hide them. It’s really more so I can add no crawl tags to the pages so the search engines don’t crawl them. I’ve had enough people over the years ask me if there was a way to filter them out of search too. I shouldn’t have made it the default to filter them out.
It’s okay! I was just trying to figure out if it was my imagination that they were showing up yesterday and not today, then when I saw your post, I had the “ah so I’m not going crazy” thought hahaha.
Just leaving an FYI here. I seem to have had a playthrough disappear, possibly as a result of the data migration. I’m pretty sure I marked The Beekeeper’s Apprentice on my playing and played shelf last year. I checked last week and it was gone. At the time, I probably used an entry I created on my own as there wasn’t an IGDB entry yet but it seems it never merged.
Not a big deal but I thought I would let you know in case it’s part of a larger data migration problem.
It’s still here. It hasn’t been merged yet. It just doesn’t show up in search.
Sorry, I wrote my last response a little hastily. I just meant to say that all of your playthroughs and reviews and shelf data is still in tact on the other beekeepers entry. I just haven’t merged them together yet. The submitted games that I never pushed the approved button on don’t come up in the site search unless you search the game name exactly. If I’m not looking at the right thing let me know and I’ll figure it out!
