Updates

It’ll take a little bit, but we’re working on it. @Roach is doing all the hard work!

Tried it on a couple of games, works perfectly AFAICT! Great feature.

A live leaderboard would be so funny to see how many each of us has merged hahaha.

In the new game page format, will there be support multiple release version for the games show? For example, being able to see the release dates for different regions of the game like the original Japanese version and then the international ports. Example game:

Also, I love the new search page layout! Only issue I see is if I search for “Pokemon TCG Pocket” it only shows me the GB version on the search preview and not in the full search page

Let me know when you want more help with merging!

I do plan on getting this data on the page. It’s in the IGDB database, I just don’t have the data structures built into Grouvee yet. For the Hatsune Miku game, this is what they have https://www.igdb.com/games/hatsune-miku-colorful-stage#releases. I didn’t initially do it because IGDB has so many granular game entry pages that I didn’t think I’d need to worry about too many different release dates for different regions, but I’m wrong

Thanks! I guess I need to go look at what the heck I did! I have 3 different search functions (because I’m a bad programmer), but they should have the same algorithm.

Here’s a fun easter egg for anyone looking here on the forums. If you go to your profile page, and change the URL from

https://www.grouvee.com/user/<id>-<username>/ to https://www.grouvee.com/user/v2/<id>-<username>/

you’ll see something cool. So my normal profile page is https://www.grouvee.com/user/1-peter/ , but if you go to https://www.grouvee.com/user/v2/1-peter/ , you’ll see what I’ve been working on for a long time, but have been rolling with motivation recently.

Oooooo shinyyyy. I love the average ratings and favorite genres and games. Fun fun fun.

Yeah, I was kind of playing around with how many genres to list. I only just put this stuff on the real servers last night and was surprised how much I liked seeing the genre numbers and stuff. I want to figure out a way to see all of it honestly. Maybe a stats tab would be good to just list all sorts of nonsense.

I don’t know if this is preferred or not but it’d be nice to have more favorite games on display. Like maybe have it pull random titles from our Favorites shelf so we don’t have to choose our favorite children.

Or maybe a current year favorites display? That could be interesting.

I know the New releases has changed, but Its actually working? Games that came out today like Mewgenics, Crisol and Relooted seem to be relevant enough to appear but I’m not seeing them yet.

It is working. Mewgenics still had an old GB entry that had most of the activity on it, and I hadn’t merged it until this afternoon at some point. I’ve been playing around with the “algorithm” of what shows over there. Basically it’s just what games have the most activity on the site that have a release date a certain number of days before today. I had it set to 28. Now I have it set to 7, so all the games you mentioned are over there. So maybe it wasn’t actually working

Sorry, I’ve been away for a bit, I had no problem moving the data on things like pokemon versions and whatnot, easy and nice, but is this new restructuring the reason there are so many entries for a game, when that game got many ports, even if they are functionally the same?

This feels a bit like it fragments discussion and interaction among different hard to find places, but I might be missing something/confused about the changes.

I’m not sure how much you’ve read some of my other posts, but it’s because we switched to IGDB as a data source. That’s how they separate their entries. I’m still learning how and when they divide things, and I’m sure there are inconsistencies between older entries and newer entries. From what I gather, they don’t split out ports unless there is something fairly different. Now what you and I might consider different enough to be a port is different than what they consider different enough. I like how they do it for the most part because they generally have a “parent” game (AKA the daddy game) and you can navigate to all the ports, expansions, dlcs, etc. pretty easily.

I agree that this could happen. I was going to kind of wait it out and see how it goes for a little while as everyone gets used to the new data. It would be easy enough to roll all of the child game’s info up to the parent game page if it seems like we need to. I just want to get the majority of this crap merged before worrying about it.

I see! Waiting sounds fair. My doubts came mostly from noticing I didn’t have the Resident Evil (REmake) port logged as played, and it was because I only had the original Gamecube one as played, and those do seem like too similar as ports to separate, but the tabs for remasters, ports, etc. are nice. Thank you for all the work!

Some of the Resident Evil stuff confuses me. Are you talking about the 2014 entry marked as remaster of the 2002 Gamecube one? I’m kind of assuming that one is just because it was 12 years apart, and they decided to call it a remaster. I honestly don’t know if there were any differences, and I played both the Gamecube version and the PS4 version!

Great update! Finally, all the missing games and DLCs are on their places.

OK, I’m bad at doing sales pitch stuff here on Grouvee, but I’m going to try. I added 2 new “Gold” levels this morning. Now there is a $10, $20, and $50 per year level. If you are already a member at any level, you can upgrade to the higher levels, and you will be charged a prorated amount.

There is functionally no difference between the levels right now. I have a couple of ideas for some simple things like titles or different bits of flair for the higher levels, but I don’t want to hide any main features behind a paywall if I don’t have to. I’d actually love to use some Gold money to pay members to design some stuff. I’ve had a lot of people ask me over the years if they could pay more, and I always just kind of shrugged. I’ve been working on Grouvee a lot recently, and I decided I wanted to give it a real go to see if I can make something bigger out of it. I personally think we have the best interface of all the collection sites, and our community is by far the best.

Anyway, if you have questions, or want to yell at me, comment here, or email me at peter@grouvee.com. If you pay for the $50 level, I promised that @georgeypoorgey will say your name on a podcast. He doesn’t know this yet, and if he doesn’t agree to it I’ll just get an AI generator to do it from the hours of podcast recordings I already have.

Thank you for all the years of support!

I feel like we can be more creative with the extortion, such as covering up his voice with Donkey Kong noises.

Maybe it’s just me, but on mobile I cannot interact with my shelf because an ad takes up the whole screen, can not be closed, and doesn’t go away.

Do you have any screenshots? Adsense is not the best. I’m planning on switching to a new network soon where I’ll be manually placing vs Adsense that is automatic and can be bad.
