I do a terrible job of posting updates to what the heck I’ve been doing on Grouvee. There have been a ton of changes recently, and I’m going to try and post when I do something major.
- First up, the IGDB merging process is now fully ongoing. We have gotten our data from Giant Bomb for years, since the beginning of Grouvee. A couple of years ago during one of the times I thought they were just going to disappear I decided to switch our data source to IGDB. No big deal right? Merging the Giant Bomb entries into the IGDB entries had me dragging my feet for way too long. I’ve finally got it going, and have merged close to a thousand entries with the help of @Roach @BMO and @WerqKween so far. Once I feel confident in the process and rules, I’ll ask for more volunteers to help with this. There’s one major difference in how the data is handled. There are others, but this is the one that affects everyone here the most.
- GB mostly treated remasters and ports as a release of a main entry. So when you went to Final Fantasy V for instance, you’d see 15 platforms listed because it was remastered/ported. Now if you look at the “Main” entry for FFV (here) you’ll only see Super Famicom and Wii. Yes we’re merging the main GB entry into that, but all of your metadata and reviews with platform data are still in tact. If you feel like moving your entry to the correct port, you can navigate to it on that page. It mostly only affects older games.
- Search is now much faster, and the search results page is in a different hopefully more efficient format. I’d love to hear your feedback on it because I’m thinking about changing the whole game’s list format to that.
- The New Releases part of the front page will show games released within the last 30 days sorted by most activity. I think that will make that section a little more relevant because IGDB is a firehose of games and I didn’t know what half the games were on that tab most of the time.
I’ll use this thread to post major updates. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback!
