Bring the carrots back! holds up a sign
I reckon @WerqKween came up with the best name for people who use this site - Grouveers.
Also; guess Iām the lamest person here as Iāve never smoked marijuana - or taken any non-prescription drug - in my life. Partially that has to do with a heart condition I have, partially Iām just not interested.
On the identification thing in games; I quite often pick the female character. Streets of Rage and Golden Axe in particular I quite prefer Blaze and Tyris as I greatly prefer their playstyle. Similarly, my favourite Street Fighter character is Cammy as I love the way she fights. In modern games, where male and female characters generally are more equal, I pick the female because I HATE the dude-bro thing many games do with their male characters (looking at you Cyberpunk).
Also, anyone that *doesnā*t love dogs is not someone I want to hang around with!
Edit Typos
Weāre tied for the lamest person here, then.
Holy smokes thereās a super grouveecast thread! Iāve been swamped by work and family stuff its been a blur trying to keep up with anything!
Really love the podcast and appreciate all involved, itās been a nice backdrop to my day-to-day:)
Most of the brilliant music for this episodes question have already been said, but I second Aquatic Ambience from DKC, and the scores from RDR, Pokemon, Outer Wilds, and DOOM!
Halo is another big one for me personally, I love how biblical and epic it sounds (not that Iām religious) and how it sets the perfect backdrop for some of the most bad ass action in video game history. Super Mario has always used music really effectively too, whether its the change in tone of the ghost house music as ghosts chase you when you arenāt looking, or the more upbeat notes as youāre riding along grassy hills on yoshis back. Even the jingle as you die is iconic!
Sometimes music can be really forgettable but it plays such a big part for me to feel things. Whether itās something emotional or just chill vibes. I think this is why itās easier for me to notice it.
I feel like I spend a lot of my time looking at life through the lens of music, and thatās why itās such a big part of my gaming experience (Itās a huge part of my tv and film experience too!). Music can carry so much weight and meaning, not only through lyrics but also through the melodies and instruments used. Itās like when I hear the The Last of Us theme I instantly feel emotions of loss and hardship, and then when the flourish of bright guitar comes through it makes me think of the purpose, meaning, and hope that Ellie gives Joel and the journey that both of them embark on together, along with everything that lays ahead of them.
Also I want to see a LOTR movie concert so bad. SO BAD. Bucket list worthy bad. Howard Shore is one of my favorite composers just for those movies.
I donāt have a huge bucketlist but seeing a live orchestrated film is on there! Iād love to see a LOTR one, the music is sublime and again encapsulates so much of what the characters are fighting for in the film! I went to a John Williams concert last year inside a cathedral which was great, but I wish it was a film event!!
all future music videos should be carried out inside video games from now on!
Also speaking of music, I donāt think I can wait a whole year to post this around christmas time, and Iāll most definitely forget, so I apologise in advance but Georgeypoorgey this ones for you!
Sorry I had to show you āGothic Hip Hopā:
Eat a sausage, bro! Itās important, bro! Relax! Thanks, hopefully this wonāt be the last sausage I get here!
That is brilliant!
Making things a little more meta, what about songs about video games?
Hereās a few from the brilliant Kirby Krackle;
Mario
Fallout
Mega Man
And a person favourite, Computer Games by Mi-Sex#
Comic episode is already in the works for you lol. Before you sent notes it was one of the topics we thought about. So next time you come around.
I was todays years old to learn this genre exists/ this music is a genreā¦ THANK YOU! I am the biggest noob in the world when it comes to music.
LEX ist dope!
Lol, its one of my favorite genres, but i rarely being it up because most people i know either have no interest in rap or in videogames/anime etc.
Lex is pretty fun. Shes got a lot about how it is being a 2nd generation asian woman living in the u.s. and the expectations put on her, as well as the fun nerd rap stuff. Shes got some pretty diverse lyrical stuff.
Edit: if you want more check out MC Chris, Optimus Rhyme, Schafer the Darklord, MC frontalot, Dan Bull, Sammus, and Shubzilla
Thereās some great stuff out there.
Hereās another from Kirby Krackle which became the song I used to serenade the ladies.
And this might just be the ultimate nerd core track -
Then thereās Blind Guardian, an actually, proper, professional metal band whose every song in inspired by Lord of the Rings.
