@GigaDeathNullGolem I just got some truck bed coating in from ebay and applied a first layer. It stripped off the old paint, which wasn’t an issue. Then I let dry and applied another. I’m really liking how it looks. The stuff sure does smell terrible. I was in my garage destroying my lungs.

Pictures will follow soon.

You guys are probably sick of hearing about my retro station but here it is with truck bed coating paint on the top half. It still needs some work but overall I like it, the texture is awesome! I thought about painting the whole thing but I like the color scheme.

On a side note, I had to wipe the SD card and re-image, reinstall Raspian and Emulation Station. It was acting up, some audio over HDMI issues, freezing, and internet connection issues. All fixed now. Just need to load games I would like to play. Not a problem as I like finding the ROMs and scraping the box art and description.

That looks sweet. The contrast between the top and bottom looks great.

Thank you! It needs a little touch up but coming along well.

I think it looks nice. Glad it worked out. that TBC is interesting stuff isnt it? no flaking of that surface ever. no sticky stuff, etc. It’s a great solution to something when you are okay with black and that uniform texture. I think it looks a whole lot better, practical, uniform than something you have to ‘build up’ with textured surfaces.

Thanks! Its more durable now. I appreciate the recommendation, I wouldve never thought of TBC to protect it. Very creative.

It looks really awesome. And I really want one

Thanks @simongotestrand. Here is the final paint job. Definitely homemade looking but I like it a lot.

wow that’s sexy. U even ‘rockin’ the RF Switch! Love that cutout. I must say (how did you do that lighter shade of black btw???)… as someone who is quite happy just emulating through PC soft that came out nice to envy (I’ll have to remember this as a wonderful way to use the shell for a nonfunctional system.)

What’s next? You gonna Cerakote your NES zapper? Teal/black two tone! XD

The other month I saw these cheap Uzi replica light guns that would cycle back and forth (audbily) for the PS2, They got bad reviews and supposed dont hit what you aim at well. I dont have a PS2 but I was tempted to try it (they can be found online/ebay places for like 20-30 range) Nothing like giving a $20 piece of junk a $200 paint job. :stuck_out_tongue:

Controllers are tricky. I’ve never painted them cause i’d worry about sticky palms, etc… But that truckbed coating would go well, dont you think? The buttons however could be more trouble that its worth or risky. So I wouldnt do it with any kind of paint. I also personally wouldnt want that textured surface of TBC on a controller. I’m just wondering if you were planning anything else as i see the SNES bone u have in the previous pic. (Also, you can find cool decals on those links I posted above. I still have the ones that came in an issue of NP for my SNES and NES controllers.)

There is probably guys on grouvee that have experience modding contemporary current gen controllers. I’ve seen a lot of weird acessories and things for PS4 controllers so figure its done a bit. Button replacements and weird slipmat type things. when my Sidewinder dies i might look into what can be done with a PS/PS2 USB controller (if anything)

Anyway nice job, and enjoy it!

It looks fantastic! Have fun with it!

Thanks! I actually found some dark gray acrylic paint and used that over some of the trim. The truck bed coating was so noxious I couldn’t stand it anymore. The end result is durable, but holy hell, that stuff is deadly.

The most I did with controllers was some red LED back lighting for NES controllers.

Thanks! It’s been a journey and keeps getting better.

I just picked up a broken NES console, mostly for parts because the top is actually light gray, clean, without yellow stains! I traced the problem to the AC in port, which wiggled around a lot, cutting out power. Opening up the RF module I found the plastic inside the port was broken in half. I sugru’d the halves together and held them in place with the male end of the AC adapter plugged in. Waiting for it to cure now. So far, it’s working great with a clean 72 pin connector on the board.

Have you guys seen this?

Ben Heckendorn Makes the ‘Nintendo PlayStation’ Fully Operational

Ben Heck is incredible!

Totally! The stuff he does is pretty awesome. This is one hell of a thing he did. Can I have that Nintendo Playstation, please?

Super cool. Imagine if sony and nintendo collaborated on all hardware since the 90’s, microsoft (and anyone else) would probably not have had a chance.

oh wow a backlit nes controller is too cool. That’s a very novel idea and I haven’t seen that before but it looks appropriate. How does one go about back lighting a NES (red) or SNES controller (purple) anyway? does the light just shine through with no special modification needed?

Here are some diagrams I created for it. I’m trying to sell some on Ebay but people are not really taking to it.

The controller overlay (original one) is glued on. I peeled it off before cutting for the windows. The cool thing about the overlay is the red windows are translucent. Once the LEDs are wired behind the overlay the light shines through. Pretty neat.

Picked up some components to build my brother a retrostation because I’ve been selling his childhood games…

I’m not sure how much he’ll actually use it because he works all the time, but it makes me feel better about selling his games. I don’t believe he cares because he doesn’t like accumulating things.
