Movies and TV, Anyone?

Saw The Bad Guys 2 today because it was in town and had nothing better to do ! Haven’t seen the original nor read the books at this time

That was pretty cool; the Bad Guys 2 were in it. But now they’re the Good Guys [?]…and they become [SPOILER] at the end ? Hey, this is just Despicable Me 2, but with furries ! Well, that’s neat

I liked the Bad Girls; they were pretty cool. Especially when they tied up the Good Guys; that would be fun <3 I wondered if they’d become Prison Babes at the end. Looked like they wanted to be friends with the Good Guys, too–at least sometimes. I wish I had more of a social life like them !

I would have to be careful with them, because I take peppermints on car rides [for carsickness]

Also watched X-Men 3 the other night; it was pretty intense. I didn’t like how they [SPOILERED ]some of the main guys; I’m like–they can’t do that! Can they?! Is this all going to be a dream or something ? I liked the first 2 better, though I thought Beast was pretty cool

I liked Weapons! Reminded me a bit of Longlegs.

i saw Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest last weekend and I feel like I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It is a bizarre film- half directed like a Lifetime film, but the other half is Spike swinging hard. Sometimes those scenes would be intercut. He’s making the conscious choice to direct half the movie that way and I still don’t know why. But I’m fascinated by the choice to do one more with Denzel acting his heart out (I love when he contorts his face to show his embarassment) that is executed in such an odd manner. I question it. I resent it. I love it.

We finished Superman: the Animated Series the other day ! It was the animated series starring Superman. I think he could have been more lovable, like in the new movie

Then we tried to start Justice League, but the first disc was scratched so that the 2nd half of the 3rd episode wouldn’t play ! I tried to get the scratch off, but it didn’t work. And that was already a bad night because I went to a singles event and nothing happened and I got so depressed

Pokemon Concierge is my favorite pokemon. It’s so artfully-done, leisurely-paced, funny, and nice. I think you could take away the pokemon, just make it a show about a pet hotel, and it would still be top tier comfort entertainment. Still, the pokemon help. It’s always exciting seeing a new felt version of trubbish. Everyone’s little pokemon-patterned clothes are also little wonders. This season’s finale kinda seems like a series finale, but I hope they air new episodes in Heaven.

Watched THE GOLDEN CHILD yesterday; I picked it up at the weekly book sale under the libe a few weeks ago. It’s one we watched/rented long, long ago

It’s kind of an odd one. Eddie Murphy is in it, and the Golden Child is in it. And there’s like…a magic element to it, and the other half is comedy. And the final boss turns into a monster so that’s kind of wild

Saw an IMAX screening of the new Demon Slayer movie yesterday, and it ruled. I hardly ever get excited for a film anymore, but this sure knocked my socks off. Such thrilling, brilliant animation from start to finish. I’ll note it’s the first of a trilogy of films for the final arc of the series though, so I can only recommend it to folks who have watched or read everything that has come before it. A real treat for fans though; I couldn’t be more pleased.

Listened to THIS episode of Tooned In with Jim Cummings where Alan Tudyk is interviewed.

In the interview he mentions that during the testing for I, Robot the test audience was asked to rate the characters. Alan’s character of Sonny was rated higher than that of Will Smith’s. Because of this, his name was stripped from all promotion resulting in heaps of people - including Jim Cummings himself - not knowing Alan was in the movie.

I know Hollywood is a hive of scum and villainy, but man! Imagine all but scrubbing a performer from your film, and arguably the best performer at that! I would love to know if it was Smith himself or just his “people” that organised that.

The way voice actors are treated is criminal.

I wanted to highlight Craig of the Creek. It’s great, and my kids place it alongside their more fantastical faves (Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Amphibia, The Owl House). There’s something nice about it’s handling of play and community that isn’t in any other show I can think of. And the artwork, while conventional, can be surprisingly comedic and expressive. Great comfort show.

The video game episode is top tier. If you know, you know.

you get like 30 minutes into One Battle After Another and begin thinking this is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and then that feeling remains for the remaining 135 minutes of the film’s running time.

It’s been a great year for film (bad for everything else), but the year isn’t over! I made a list of the films I’m excited to see to close out 2025 and I’m sharing that list with you now!

Oct 3 - The Smashing Machine | Will the Rock finally make a good movie? With the help of a Safdie, he might!

Oct 10 - After the Hunt | With Challengers, Guadagnino showed that sex can make you good at tennis. What will he teach us this time?

Oct 17 - Frankenstein | I’m a simple man. When Guillermo Del Toro makes a movie, I see it.

Oct 17 - Good Fortune | After the Naked Gun, I’m ready to laugh again. Aziz, why you in Saudi Arabia?

Oct 17 - Blue Moon | Musicals are good and I like them and I like learning about them.

Oct 24 - Bugonia | Kinda seems like an expansion of Jesse Plemons’ nuts cop story in Kinds of Kindness. Reminder- watch Kinds of Kindness again. It’s great!

Nov 14 - The Running Man | Edgar Wright knows how to do action and this looks quite action to me.

Nov 14 - Eternity | The trailer reminder me of Defending Your Life. Won’t be as good though without Albert Brooks.

Nov 14 - Jay Kelly | Globe-trotting George Clooney is one of my favorite genres.

Nov 21 - Wicked:For Good | I hope they finally kiss in this one. I have children.

Thanksgiving - Zootopia 2 | I hope they finally kiss in this one. I have children.

Thanksgiving - Knives Out 3 | Benoit Blanc is gunna be like “And to whom is Jeremiah 29:11 written if you don’t mind my asking”

Nov 27 - Hamnet | Nomadland was the last good Marvel movie. The Hamnet story is one I’m kinda familiar with so it’ll be fun filling in the blanks.

Dec 12 - Ella McCay | James L Brooks made Broadcast News and that’s good enough for me.

Dec 19 - Is This Thing On | I know folks weren’t that into Maestro, but I liked it and I liked A Star is Born. Also Will Arnett is fam.

XMAS - Marty Supeme | Gotta support both Safdies after the divorce to see how everything shook out.

I will probably try to catch the new Tron movie with friends. I’m not expecting it to be as good as the previous two films, but hopefully we can get a cool Nine Inch Nails music video or two out of it.

Other than that, there’s an anime returning that I’m personally looking forward to, called Angel’s Egg. This was a 1985 OVA directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), collaborating with artist Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy). It’s an extremely gorgeous and detailed animation to look at, so I recommend it to all fans of that particular era of anime. But a note of warning: There isn’t much plot. It’s arthouse fare, very expressionist and metaphorical. I imagine this will release in fewer theaters than the Demon Slayer film, ha ha. But hopefully there’ll be at least one showing in my area.

funny enough, one of my kid’s criticism of the new superman was that there was too much kissing. outside of that, they seem kiss neutral.

Today we watched Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. That guy Beetlemeyer was in it

– Last year, I took a young lady to see it which was exciting [my first time], but unfortunately we had to grow apart for reasons. She gave me a k-ss on the ch–k that day and we had a good time. She loved Beetlejuice and sort of got me into it

– Well, Jeremy sort of had a love interest fall into his lap [in a manner of speaking] In the end, he wasn’t very nice to her. The first time, I realized I should’ve guessed that he was [SPOILER]

– Also, it looks like people are just dying and spawning in the Neitherworld here, whereas in the original the Maitlands respawned in their house. Maybe they changed the rules for reasons

– Rory swore in a church !

– Poor Lydia ! It seems she has lost many loved ones; things can’t be easy for her. But she can see ghosts; maybe she can visit them. Though she can’t see her husband for whatever reason

– Once I noted, Beetlejuice is the antagonist, but…he always honors his deals, doesn’t he. And then the humans back out. Well, what can you do

– Of course, in the old cartoon AU [back in my day] Lydia and Beetlejuice were best friends ! Sort of a more lighthearted dynamic. If you’d only ever seen that, it’d be weird to see the movie where she’s afraid of him !

Perfect Blue’s rerelease is one of the best timed showings I have ever witnessed. Perfect movie to watch during all of the Taylor Swift craze. Absolute masterpiece of a movie, but I hate it for being the most horrifying thing I have ever witnessed in any medium, made even worse that I was the only one in the theater. I will never want to watch or even think about this movie again. It broke me. How do you even start with a directorial film debut like this?

I didn’t like the movie, but I do think it incorporated a bit from the cartoon, which I appreciated.
