the one i just watched ended with a kirk franklin styled gospel song.
I’d been thinking I might like to check out the old X-Men movies, so today we went ter the thrift store and–lo!–the first DVD I saw was X-Men so I got that. And X-Men First Class
So we watched X-Men today; that was pretty cool. The X-Men were in it, and they Xd all over the place. And Magneto was in it and he’s a pretty cool antagonist. I liked when he turned back the cars/guns [they should’ve brought a wooden gun–a wooden gun!]
One thing I always thought was, it seems to me that Wolverine should be almost 100% useless against Magneto. But, what can you do
They’re making a beat 'em up soon, with some X-Men and Spider-Men and others
Rewatched Ne Zha 2 with the English Dub in 3D IMAX. I like the performances in spite of some miscast. Crystal Lee was good as the titular character. I’m glad Mike Pollock was replaced, but the English VA was not fit for the opening narration. Ao Guang and Ne Zha’s dad were horribly miscast. Shen Gong Bao’s English voice was all over the place. Never really committed to a consistent voice. He has some of the strongest performances of the film, but he changes a lot. I noticed a single reuse of lines from Michelle Yeoh’s character. Not a fan of her casting given her character is a lot younger looking and sounding in the Mandarin audio. She did raise Ne Zha for 3 years. And when I think of the characters she was casted as, especially in animated films, I think of older character like the Soothsayer from Kung Fu Panda 2 and that old lady from Minions 2(idk haven’t seen it). Still love the movie though.
I watched and had a blast with The Bad Guys 2. Whether or not you’ve seen the original, this would be worth seeing on the big screen if you are an action or animation fan. I was genuinely in awe of the amount of spectacle packed into this cartoon. If you’re unconvinced, let me describe the finale for you- The Bad Guys fly a police helicopter to catch up with a space ship rocketing into the atmosphere. They jump off the helicopter onto the space ship. They climb the space ship as the different pieces detach. They open the hatch as their bodies start to freeze in space to stop an even badder guy from activating a giant gold magnet. I’ll stop there, but this is the kind of movie I think folks will watch at home and regret missing their chance to see in theaters. It’s fun!
To-day I found the infamous Catwoman movie for $1, so we watched that !
This isn’t the Catwoman we know [Selina Kyle], but it is A Catwoman [Patience Philips]; I used to think that was kind of weird. And they credit Bob Kane, so it’s not like…it’s a coincidence, it’s just a different Catwoman. Maybe there’s a Cat inside every Woman. It’s sort of like the older [live-action] Super Mario Bros. movie, where it’s pretty much its own thing
I would like to meet a Catwoman like her
I remember this was considered a “bad” one by some, but my mother liked it and that’s what’s important
I restarted collecting physical media (DVDs and Blu-rays) and started down the rabbit hole criterion collection. I really don’t need to collect anything else.
Anyone else collect Criterion?
I started building a Blu-Ray collection a few years ago, and I think I’m approaching 100 films. Some of those are Criterion – they’re always nice to have. And fun to pick up another film or two whenever Barnes and Noble does their 50% off sale on them. I think that’s a twice-a-year thing? Keep an eye out for 'em. So far I’ve got:
- Chungking Express
- Citizen Kane
- Cranes Are Flying
- Drive My Car
- Ikiru
- Lady Snowblood
There are plenty of others I’d like to get, namely that classic Godzilla 15-film collection they’ve got.
Another boutique label I really like is Arrow Video, which gets me a lot of the J-horror films I dig. They’ve released some nice box sets, and I plan to dive into them this upcoming Halloween season.
I prefer physical media, though I wonder what I’ll do when I run out of space
I’ve found a few at thrift stores/book sales recently, as noted
Dammit Georgey you’re not helping! Lol. That looks incredible though
Goals.
Awesome thank you for the information! My wife is in a book club so we might look into a rewards program at Barnes. We might have one but I want to see the perks.
I heard the next Barnes criterion sale is in November. I prefer to buy used but 50% off of new is a better price than used.
I try to think of environmental costs with purchases but a few brand new blu-rays isn’t going to destroy the planet.
Rest in peace Graham Greene (actor) - Wikipedia
The last film I saw him in was Wind River. It’s a film that focuses on missing Native American women. I liked it a lot.
Finally got to see X2; that was great ! Kelly Hu was in it, and wore glasses…and Nightcrawler was in it; I thought he was pretty cool ! And Magneto was in it, and he was pretty Mag-Neato
Reminded me of Sonic Adventure 2, the way the good guys and the bad guys ended up teaming up. But, looks like Magneto’s intentions were not entirely benevolent here ! He had me going there
Poor Jean Grey…I wonder if she will rise from the ashes…I mean, from the water…
We finished Castlevania tonight. Strong recommend! I cried for like twenty minutes at the end because it’s what I do. Now I’m looking forward to Nocturne.
