Movies and TV, Anyone?

We watched Fantastic Four [2005] to catch up on the Fantastic Lore. And then we watched Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which seems to be similar to the story of the more recent Fantastic Four: First Steps

Rise of the Silver Surfer did have a lot more of Sue in glasses, so that was exciting. Plus, instead of being pregnant, she was trying to get married to Reed but things kept happening to postpone the wedding. I think that would be very frustrating. And they didn’t even invite Stan Lee

Also the Fantasticar showed up, and so did the Silver Surfer. Next, they should do the one where they trick Magneto with a wooden gun

my kid saw a photo of jim varney making the ernest face and she’s been begging me to watch an ernest movie ever since.

War of the Worlds 2025 is horrible, I love it. It made me believe that if a movie funded by Amazon can have this many poorly used S_shake keyframes, then I can make it into the film industry as an editor.

You have no nostalgia for Ernest Scared Stupid? You’re a monster!

I still call milk “miek” to this day.

I grew up watching his ads and then his TV specials, and then movies. Honestly, the one that freaked me out as a kid was Ernest Goes to Jail.

I watched half of Ernest Scared Stupid on Halloween–it was one of those free movies they have sometimes

So I went to watch the next half the next day, but I couldn’t because it wasn’t a free movie anymore. So I don’t know how it ended at this time. But, Eartha Kitt was in it

Ernest was never a thing in Australia. Not even sure if the movies ever came out there. I didnt hear about them until my 20s. Still never seen one.

After god knows how many years, we finished Sword Art Online. The series had been in a clear decline from the first season through to the end, and despite promising KIRITO WILL RETURN at the end of the last episode, he’s nowhere to be found… Alicization is a series of one Deus ex machina after another mcguffin. It’s such a shame they give in to their worst impulses and horny fan service at times, because they do manage a few poignant moments.

For those of you out there who haven’t watched any SAO and might be interested, watch the first season, roll your eyes at the dumb stuff, and call it a day.

Watched Castle Freak last night (the original 1995 film). Absolutely loved it, but it certainly won’t be for everyone. It gives a whole new meaning to being “eaten out.” :grimacing:

That’s unfortunate. Honestly I mostly only watch Ernest Scared Stupid these days, so I’m not well versed in what he used to do.

Lego Masters Jr is a show saved by the fact that Andy Richter deigned to be on it. If his team gets knocked out, I will stop watching. I don’t like seeing the kids get upset about Lego as a parent who has experienced that IRL. Also, Kelly Osbourne is no Will Arnett. He has a wonderful sweatiness that I’ve never seen another host replicate.

i know there are lots of bojack horseman fans on this site. i’ve seen the profile pics. Good news! Long Story Short seems to be a wonderful new show from Raphael Bob-Waksberg. Every scene boils with theatrical tension without losing any of Bojack’s wit.

It feels very different from Bojack. Long Story Short is like Shakespearean Everybody Loves Raymond. At least the pilot is like that. And I’m like 1/3 of the way through the second episode. But I am so delighted by it. I have missed Waksberg’s precision.

Speaking of precision, Alien: Earth is high art. It simultaneously feels like the original film, the newer Prometheus/Covenant style, and its own whole thing. Hawley brings the same curiosity for the source work as he brought to his wonderful Fargo series. Watching it makes you think “I forgot how good Alien could be”. Or maybe a part of you never knew. Regardless who you are, I recommend you check it out.

Is it depression porn like Bojack was?

so far no. each episode is a story about a moment in this family’s life from birth to balding (at least so far). so there is closure each episode and things so far end in melancholic places, but not despairing. No “Stupid Piece of Shit” so far.
