It is, but the 60’s show is also, at least in that respect, incorrect, and, in regards to the creation of the character, the antithesis of everything Batman is about.
I’m not trying to say you shouldn’t enjoy the show, but you should be aware that it is very, very removed from what Batman was intended to be by his (true) creator, Bill Finger.
That’s true to an extent. He became Batman because he saw his parent’s murdered in front of him and didn’t want anyone else to ever have to go through that pain. His parent’s were murdered by organised crime members who were, arguably, able to operate as freely as they were due to Gotham’s corruption. He chose to dress as a bat because, as it says in the film, bats are frighting. Bruce wanted to use the same fear criminals put into innocent people - the fear he felt when his parents were killed - as a weapon against the criminals.
I sort of figured ! We’ve actually been watching some of them because my mother loved it, growing up. They’re always gaslighting Aunt Harriet…
I never really followed the comics, but have read a few of them back in the day
I suppose one might compare it to the '87 Ninja Turtle cartoon, in being a somewhat loose/more light-hearted adaptation without much input from the creators
Finally watched THE DARK KNIGHT RISES this time; that was interesting
– The Dark Knight is in it, and…he’s Batman ! Looks like Robin is in it, too. But not my favorite version
– Catwoman was pretty cool ! I especially liked her in h-ndcuffs <3 The last time we watched Batman Returns, I thought–it would be interesting to see Batman and Catwoman kind of team up. Against a greater threat. They’re both classic Halloween mammals, after all
– Maybe I’m old, but regarding Bane…I couldn’t understand most of what he was saying. I guess I got the gist of it after a while
– Batman tells the Robin to get a mask, which reminded me of way back when, I was reading some kind of humor site that pointed out that Robin’s mask wouldn’t really disguise him more than a pair of sunglasses would. Maybe he gets a better mask in this Batmanverse. And talks like a bird when he’s in costume
– I liked when Batman was flying the bomb away from Gotham City and growled, “SOME DAYS, YOU JUST CAN’T GET RID OF A BOMB…” I wondered if he legit died–in his own movie ! More like the Dark Knight FALLS, right ?! But then we see Alfred in Italy and I thought, oh…he’s going to see Bruce and Selina. You can’t disappoint Alfred, he’s old
I really like Michaela Watkins and Carol Kane, but I had no idea this remake even existed. For their sake I hope it’s not bad, but I don’t really invest a lot of time in US sitcoms so I probably wouldn’t have even known this happened if not for this thread, lol.
That said, Tamsin Grieg and Mark Heap are in the original, which that alone makes it a gem and a reason everyone should watch Friday Night Dinners.
We re-watched Paddington 1 and 2 ! Paddington was in them
– Paddington is to marmalade as Pooh is to honey. When are they going to get a crossover
– 2 sort of reminded me of the game The Escapists. Paddington behind bars ! They should make a movie like this, but with women. But otherwise the same [making marmalade, etc.]
– In 1, Paddington almost died by fire. In 2, by water [sort of missed how he got stuck in the trunk]. So it’ll have to be by grass in 3
– Nice that Aunt Lucy got to travel. Poor Pastuzo ! He got FRIDGED
– Oh, almost forgot the main one–Paddington gets on the wrong side of an old man who later turns out to be the Judge. This also happened in the Addams Family movie ! And this time, it was the judge’s fault for not listening to Paddington
Anyone else been watching the latest season of Severance? I really did enjoy the first season, but wasn’t sure if the show could make good on its promises in a second season, and with only two episodes left I’m still not sold on it. Both my brother and best friend are enjoying it though, so what the hell do I know!
I’m enjoying it. Was just discussing some thoughts on the last episode with my partner. What would you say has made the second season less compelling for you?
I think it’s been really slow in comparison to the momentum and energy I felt from the first season. I’m not sure how to put it, but I’ve just felt that most each episode focuses on very few key plot developments and stretches them outrageously thin. For me this extends to the worldbuilding too, which feels purposefully sparse and vague in a way I was once behind but am starting to become exhausted by.
It has just been feeling like a lot of build to a potential third season to me. I am not sure how I feel about that kind of long-game, but I really hope I eat my words and the finale is worth it all!
Not to say there aren’t parts I like a lot: I really enjoyed episode 3. These are just my feelings on my first watch as it happens.
I was in the mood to re-watch an old favorite, Big Hero 6! So, we did
– Baymax is the best guy. I have a stuffed him
– Kind of inconsiderate of Tadashi to [SPOILER] on Hiro’s big day; now no one’s gonna be in the mood for free food. Running into a burning building to save a guy…Tadashi must’ve been watching too much Ninja Turtles 3 !
– You might say Aunt Cass is a bit of a AILF. She brings Aunt May to mind…having already lost loved ones, and not knowing that her nephew is going on dangerous missions behind her back !
– Though, why does Hiro hide Baymax from her pre-superhero ? CinemaSins questioned this too
– We see that Baymax’s battery can run out. What if that happens after he flies Hiro onto a blimp or something ? That’d be a major inconvenience for them !
– It’d be cool if they collected the original comics. I did watch a video essay about them; looks like they were kind of…the Avengers of Japan, you might say
All those live-action remakes are kind of redundant, you could say. I remember seeing the Lion King one when it was out and feeling kind of bad for the kids because the Lion King BACK IN MY DAY was so much…better, I felt ! It was always one of my favorites
Anyway, watched BREAKFAST CLUB on YouTube out of curiosity. It’s no Home Alone. And they never had breakfast
I of course liked Allison best at first, because she was mysterious and eccentric and never spoke for a while
Mickey 17 wasn’t as good, but still worth checking out. It’s sad that I was the only one in my theater.
The Day the Earth Blew Up was good. Still wild that this is the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie. Solid writing and I liked some of the dialogue written around characters’ voices like Daffy’s. I miss 2D animation and Farmer Jim is peak.
