Yesterday my brother and I saw The Day the Earth Blew Up ! It was a pretty good time
– We grew up with the Looney Tunes, of course. Hadn’t really watched them in a while, but this was an interesting take. I’d be open to seeing more of them
– Petunia’s in this. I remember her being more in kids books/merchandise than in the actual cartoons. She seemed pretty cool
– I wondered what the deal with that alien was gonna be. When Porky and Petunia were fighting all the zombified guys, it made me think of Sonic the Hedgehog, perhaps [because destroying the robots frees the hypnotized animals that were powering them]
– As a fan of PaRappa the Rapper, I appreciated the reference to Daffy thlamming his penith in the car door
– The blog Lesser Known Waifus sort of spoiled that there was a random woman in the background of one shot. Geez ! Spoilers !
I also happened to find the movie Big Fish for a dollar at a garage sale-type place Saturday morning; a friend had actually recommended that one to me. So we watched that too
In spanish, the word for 11 is ‘once’, which rimes with ‘entonces’ (then), so you have to be very careful of saying numbers in case someone comes and makes a sexual joke out of your desire of communicating known quantities of things.
i have been watching the new daredevil. i like it but we’ve been waiting for the return of the character daredevil. i wish daredevil wasn’t immediately sidelined in the daredevil show.
i saw Heretic- a movie about the world’s most annoying atheist. it features three great performances and has a wonderful sense of tension throughout. i think suspension of disbelief is strained by the story beats, but it is still a fun time. Hugh Grant is a fun villain! who knew? me because i saw Cloud Atlas!
when they go into the dungeon area, i reached a level of incredulity that made the film less fun. i’d still recommend it though. hugh grant does a jar jar voice, and that’s worth the price of a movie ticket IMO
It’s funny, at the time I was watching it I kind of wondered what you’d think about it. I had some thoughts about some of the points made in the film, but it’s the kind of film that just leaves my brain after a viewing. It didn’t linger, so now I’ve forgotten what it was that made me wonder what you’d think.
sure im just saying the ratio is off for my tastes. it has been four episodes with one scene with him as daredevil. i know they’re building to it and the end of the last episode implies that his daredevil persona is returning soon, but if i had made the daredevil show that folks waited six plus years for, i’d give the folks some daredevil - especially after removing karen and foggy from the formula.
i watched singin’ in the rain the other night and it is as good as i remember. its an old film, and in some ways, its casualness about certain issues show its age. it also is a movie with a still refreshing sense of silliness and movie grandeur. my wife had never seen it before, isn’t much for older films, and found herself really loving it. told me she wanted to show it to the kids, and she recommended it to a friend. maybe that recommendation will mean more to you than my recommendation, a recommendation coming from a person who likes old movies. so we both recommend it.
I remember the first time I watched it, thinking this was going to be real hokey—but the charm was so infectious, I had a big dumb smile the whole way through. One of the ultimate feel-good movies.
How have I just learned that there is a canned Wile E. Coyote film, and that it combines my favourite Looney Toons character with my favourite SNL cast member (Forte)? And I’ve also learned that despite being canned, it might still get a release. Please, I need this!
I guess you’re lucky you’re only finding out about it now. It was fiery-hot news in animation circles for many months, and depressed everyone along with other projects Zaslav killed for tax write-off purposes (an unfinished Batgirl movie was the biggest one).
It doesn’t make any sense to me that they can now sell the Wile E. Coyote film, but I guess you can do whatever you want when you’re rich enough. I just want to see it, at any rate. (Also want to see the Daffy & Porky film… Might get to it this weekend.)
I might have read about it when they were shelving things but I forgot this movie specifically. I was aware of everything else going on. Or I didn’t know Forte was in it.
