Movies and TV, Anyone?

i watched aloha, and it is fine i guess. im fascinated in big directors’ big flops and cameron crowe’s big flop seems to all boil down to misguidance. yes, emma stone should not be playing a quarter hawaiian woman, but that isnt the only misguided decision in the film. yes, the us military would do the bad thing. yes, the one hawaiian character should have had a larger role in the overall plot. yes, that dancing sequence should have gone on for another two minutes. the movie oddly does have a lot of charm, but not enough to make up for all its issues. maybe check it out as a curiosity like me, but dont expect anything life changing. great soundtrack though!

Have to say a little sad with Blue Bloods ending. But am really enjoying the ridculousness of the show fire country

i watched shrek 4. it has a couple more moments i laughed at than 3, but the alternate reality setting makes it hard to care about the plot. here’s my shrek ranking-

  1. shrek 2
  2. shrek
  3. shrek 4
  4. shrek 3

puss in boots the last wish is better than any of these and i dont think i’ve ever seen the original puss in boots movie to compare. will shrek 5 be good? pray to god that it is. we need a win.

So three laughs then?

i think i audibly laughed four times during shrek 4. looking back on 3, i maybe didn’t laugh at all. i have a positive nostalgic memory of going to see shrek 3 in high school with two girls i found attractive, and the movie was probably made better by my unfinished brain conceptualizing a post shrek 3 menage a trois.

Today we saw Wicked ! It was pretty long, and had a lot of singing

– I don’t know about this…the witch got [SPOILERED] by water, so…maybe we can’t get too attached to her ?

– Everyone’s MEAN just because she’s GREEN. Is that how this all started? Well, you know what they say–it’s not that easy bein’ green

– So it sort of presents the idea that good/evil can be easily manipulated, to the general populace. By whats her face…Madame Morrible. Both in fiction, and in reality. I didn’t trust her!

– The school setting brought Pokemon Scarlet/Violet to mind

– Oh, that was the Cowardly Lion ! I didn’t make the connection. I was thinking about how the original Wizard of Oz movie was like an RPG, in that she keeps picking up more guys for the quest

– I guess that’s her sister who’s going to get [SPOILERED] by a falling house, then ? Sheesh ! Harsh. That would explain her animosity towards Dorothy

– First time I’ve seen a movie end with “To Be Continued” except when The Simpsons Movie did it as a joke

– She didn’t get to do all that much magic. Like, as a witch in control of her powers. Guess that’ll be in the next one

– Oh, I see Dreamworks is going to be doing live-action remakes now. Sounds kind of lame; I wonder where they got that idea

while i enjoyed the batman, i have had no interest in this. comic book fatigue methinks. you still think i should check it out?

My brother was singing The Penguin’s praises just this past weekend. He was really recommending that I watch it.

Absolutely. Is an amazing mafia drama with amazing characters. Oz and Sofia Falcone are truly great.

Watched Transformers One. Surprisingly good with a surpisingly wee thought anticapitalist metaphor.

Who guessed that the thing that the Transformers movie franchise needed to be finally great was to get rid of the human characters?

(Me. I guessed this)

Saw Moana 2 today ! It was ok. I liked the first one better, but it was something to do

– My favorite part was when she said “to solve this crisis, I must become Moana 2 !”

– I found this one a little hard to follow. And she has a crew of four this time, but there’s not much time to get to know them. And they even have a Kakamora partner, just like how Paper Mario has partners who are creatures

– Oh, they did that thing where they pretend she’s dead…but SURPRISE ! She’s still alive ! Just like in Pokemon the first movie, or Superman Returns, or whatever

– Tamatoa at the end. Did this one even have a bad guy ? That guy tied up her hands; that’s cool

– Oh, did you know there was a song about Maui, called “Hawaiian Sup’pa Man”. We learned about that one in college

Good god, Secret Level looks truly soulless.

I haven’t watched it yet, but I fekkin hate Penguin’s new name.

That part does, yeah. It feels very by the numbers. There was some interesting stuff in the initial trailer so hopefully they won’t all be bad.

He’s called Oswald Cobblepot in The Batman and in the series. As far as I know, that always has been his name.

I thought it was Oswald “Oz” Cobb, and not Cobblepot.

Yeah, I read they’d changed it to “Oz Cobb,” which sounds like a discount food brand IMO.

i finished watching it thinking “is that it?”

im watching the later daters, and its a dating show about old people finding love produced by michelle obama. its good and silly but a little more honest that some of these other shows because old people have a certain sadness to them. also old people are complex and beautiful.

i also saw todd haynes’ safe, and it was engrossing. you never quite know how secure the space the film exists in is. there is a constant feeling of the setting breaking and where it finally settles is not portrayed as perfect. it’s like an everyday horror film. i loved it and recommended it to a friend immediately.
