We can call it a “bonus” category – I don’t want desperate completionists to end up playing Bad Rats! =P

Other good bonuses: mummies, skeletons/skulls, and Frankenstein monsters

Jiang-si would be another good one; I notice they pop up in a lot of games lately. And there’s a Mummy game or two I’ve been meaning to try

But sheesh, adding DLC before I’m even done ! Maybe it could be an all-new list next year [?]

GROUVEE HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE #9: TRICKS/TREATS

Sadly could not finish The Evil Within as it kept crashing on my ps5 god knows why. Also I have actually played recently luigi’s mansion 3 (finished in late August) so I’ll be counting that to this years halloween challenge. And actually don’t know what to play next, still looking for ideas.

edit: okay, I think i’m playing mediveil resurrection as I saw it in this thread so here would be my table as of now. I’m still counting The Evil Within since I still played a good bunch from it just couldn’t finish because of crashing…

Still working my way through Gregory Horror Show (at least halfway through now). I have encountered a couple mummy characters, a creepy doll of sorts, and some other odd creatures. Nothing that quite fits any of the main characters. (Not even killer/murder, technically. In this one, game over is going insane from losing all your mental health points, rather than getting killed.)

Very interesting game! I’ve also looked into the Japanese CG cartoon it’s based on, and that is also very interesting. As in bizarre, weird, and outlandish, but also kind of funny.

And all done with Gregory Horror Show. Really unique and fun game (sort of a “Hitman” for kids?), and perfect for Halloween season. That said, I think the only categories I can fairly cross off would be cat (for Neko Zombie), ghost (for the one that shows up at the end of the game), monster (all sorts of them), and tricks/treats (I had to do a number of tricks in this game, such as making someone slip on a banana peel, ruin someone’s bubbling stew, and “ding-dong ditch” three times). I considered including the zombie category (for Neko Zombie), but honestly he’s not really a zombie, despite the name.

My next PS2 horror game will be Kuon, a game I’ve wanted to play for a long time now. AKA the time that From Software tried making their own survival horror, but set in Heian-era Japan.

Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest

– This is one I’d always wanted to complete, but never had. I didn’t know how long it would take, but…shorter than I expected [I followed a guide]! But I don’t think I got the best ending

– This is fitting because I used Castlevania 1 for Vampire last year. I should also like to try to complete Castlevania 3 someday. They’d all be good for a lot of the categories, of course !

– It seems that Shantae took some influence from this one [the day/night cyle], and it also reminded me somewhat of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [NES] in aesthetics/sound effects

– What a horrible night to have a curse

You should try out Castlevania II: Simon’s Redaction, a very good fan hack that helps alleviate some issues with the original game.

That being said, I actually like the openness of the original even though it remains stupid cryptic at times. Good luck to anyone figuring some of the pathing without a guide. I find it to be pretty impossible unless you dig into everything and just spend three times longer with the game then you would normally.

Also, compared to the first, it is baby easy imo, and maybe too easy

You should play Castlevania: Rondo of Blood now if you didn’t in the Chronicles collection.

If you can, I would also highly recommend Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, which is one of the best DS titles and games in the series in my opinion.

I like Portrait of Ruin; I actually played it for “Werewolf” last year. In fact I re-played the whole DS trilogy, which I had been meaning to do anyway
