So I just had a random villager join. They didn’t come to my camp, I didn’t meet them on an island. It’s kind of annoying that Nintendo has clearly crafted the game to force people to spend money on Amiibo. I don’t mind Amiibo, when they are optional. But to get a villager you want you basically need to spend money because the game actively works against you otherwise. I guess it’s supposed to be random, but some villagers are downright detestable, and that somewhat hurts the chill vibe of the game. Good lord Nintendo, please just give me Filbert.
And now the campsite seems pointless. Campers can only be found on mystery islands when there is an available plot on your island. But no one comes to the campsite when you first put out a plot. And then the next day the plot is sold, providing zero time for a new camper to show up. I feel like this is a poorly implemented element in an otherwise brilliant game.
I’ve not had anyone come to the campsite apart from Amiibo. I guess I’m one of those people who doesn’t care much. There are only so many personality types and maybe I got lucky but 8 out of 9 of my residents were random and they’re all fine
I managed to get one Villager that I like and met on a mystery island to come to my island, so it’s possible. I just really dislike the jock type and I seem to keep getting them.
Everyone starts with a jock and an uchi type. My starter uchi, Bianca, just announced she’s leaving. Fortunately I have another, Agnes, who I scanned. My one jock is still about but I don’t have any others. They are also my least favourite.
I played about 20 minutes of New Leaf when it came out. I’ve actually been thinking about firing it up since I’m so into this new one, and I want to see the differences.
You should just spend the $600 on a 3rd part seller Switch on Amazon. It’s totally worth it just for this game
The theory is that those types are the most likely to want to move to a deserted island. The resident selection rules are way less complex than they used to be!
I definitely tried to get my hands on a switch, the Lite ones were available when I was looking, but after asking around, everyone told me to hold out for a full Switch. I wasn’t willing to pay double though!
I had to buy a DS for New Leaf anyway. Couldn’t even find a 3DS, only a 2DS. But at least my old original DS games work on it (Layton, yay!).
I played the original Animal Crossing on GameCube, and I played Wild World, but that’s the last AC game I played. I figured, since I missed out on New Leaf, I could at least play that until maybe Switches were back in stock.
You should play New Leaf though! It’s very lonely in my town, it seems to be built around the idea of having visitors. I don’t really understand the spotpass thing, but I think the idea is you walk around with your DS in your Pocket with AC loaded up and other people walk around with theirs and as you pass them on the street your world gets populated with their stuff (HH showcase, Campgrounds?). Unfortunately, I doubt many people are walking around with New Leaf at all anymore, besides the fact, you shouldn’t be walking around people right now period.
Also I really need a net, the little Nookling guy never has one in his store and its been daaaays.
I’m trying not to look much at New Horizons stuff, cuz I know it’ll make me want it even more, and I can’t have it right now!
Yeah StreetPass is for people passing by and visiting each other. New Leaf was the only game I got any hits for over the last 5 years, and even then it was the same 3 people over and over who happened to commute on my train. I never did figure out who they were …
Oh yeah, and New Leaf is way slower than New Horizons. And a lot more RNG based. You’re literally just waiting for the thing you need to be in stock somewhere. I once accidentally sold my shovel and it took 8 days for another to appear anywhere!
Do your residents ever contribute to public works projects? Or is that donation box a giant lie and it’s entirely up to you to fund the whole thing? I put in 92 bells and honestly I couldn’t care less if we ever have a second bridge. I put my house right next to the existing bridge, the rest of them can go the long way around.
Also is there any way to encourage residents to move out? I really want a town full of cats.
All you New Horizon people are talking about an egg hunt, does New Leaf have events?
The residents contribute tiny, tiny amounts. For a 200,000 bell project, expect them to contribute about 200.
You can encourage them to leave by never talking to them, whacking them with a net, and pushing them into pitfalls. Basically they get really angry. Just do that.
And yes, New Leaf has a plethora of wonderful events. My favourite by far is Festivale!
