I guess interest and my own laziness. At night the house gets cold so I don’t want to go into the living room. I tend to just space out on the computer with a space heater and happen to play a few games on Steam (Lyne, Star Realms), or Battlenet (Hearthstone). Once it warms up I’ll probably play more PS4 and Retropie. Over the summer I played GTAV a lot and old school games on Retropie.
Every game I buy I have every intention of at least trying out. Also what it comes down to is I don’t game a lot. I’m usually doing house work or flipping through magic cards. I like the video games I can just pick up and play, I don’t need to continue a story or remember what happened. Each session of Star Realms or Hearthstone doesn’t last too long and they’re self contained. My attention span seems to be shortening as I get older. I read a few nonfiction books but haven’t finished a novel or longer video game in awhile.
That’s how my wife is with Star Realms. The first couple times we played it I beat her pretty ruthlessly then she understood more things about it. The last four games I might have won one. It’s nice this way, usually I win when we play games but I did buy the decks for her as a Christmas present. She enjoys it a lot. Last game we played she dealt a ton of damage to me in two turns. Not sure if you played it but you start with 50 authority (life) and the goal is to get the opponent down to 0 (pretty simple). One turn she dealt 25 damage and drew 5 or 6 cards. Next turn was something like 30 points of damage. She picked up a lot of cards that let her draw more and have faction bonuses (more of the same faction you play gets more cards/damage or some other bonus).
Yeah, I keep picking up things mostly to collect. I bought FFXII collectors edition on PS2 just to have. I played it a bit on an HD TV but really need to fix my CRT TV to get the full effect.
I recalled something to that affect. How much have you played it? I keep meaning to play more but other than one afternoon where my brother and I cleared about 80% of Super Mario World I haven’t gone back, sadly.
I wonder if it’s you, or our society. As we all are subject to increasing volumes of data, especially via digital media, I think we are all gradually burning out. It’s hard to pile dense stories on top of that kind of information overload.
Yeah, could be. I attribute a lot of it to my cell phone. It’s like an instant high every time I check something or get a bid on ebay. Also it’s a distraction. I could be engrossed in a game or book and hear my phone vibrate. Just that two seconds to check takes me away from something. I used to be able to read for hours straight. This Spring and Summer I want to spend more time outside and leave my phone in. As you know I brew beer. For Christmas I got some books about brewing but one from my wife was growing herbs for beer. I think that would be nice to get out and garden more.
this. also sign up for retroachievements if you havent! It’s really a good way to feel some more satisfaction as you play something new, something long or something that’s simply a favorite of yours. I’ve been burning through backlog of all the physical games i’ve owned and explored some new games i havent for old systems thanks to this site.
I had finished and played several games in 2018 (some started during late 2017):
Stardew Valley
Outland
The Ultimate Doom
Shovel Knight
Reigns
At the moment I’m playing (for the first time):
Halo: Combat Evolved
Chrono Trigger.
Wish list is kinda big and always expansive, but these are some I consider to be priority:
Papers, Please
Final Fantasy VI
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil: Outbreak
Silent Hill 3
Castelvania: Symphony of the Night
