Favourite Movie of 2024 (So Far)

I know there’s a topic for movies and whatnot but this is for a very specific reason. It’s basically for something at the end of the year. I’ll ask again at the end of the year because I know people’s answers can and likely will change.

But what’s your favourite movie of 2024 so far?

I’d definitely toss that in my top films of the year, but I’d leave my top 3 untouched.

I mean…its my favorite film series. Can you blame me lol.

The only 2024 movie I’ve seen yet is Dune 2 so it wins by default. It was pretty good but I preferred the first.

Hmm…would’ve surely been Mario or Ninja Turtles last year; they’re two of my favorite things

Oh yeah, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire was this year ! That one was one pretty cool

Gotta be either Lisa Frankenstein of The Fall Guy for me.

First of all, thanks to those who responded. Me and my friend do a YouTube Movie Awards every year (and at the mid-year point now), and he always collects “fan” information and gets me to react to the fan’s picks for best movie of the year, so your contribution makes it better for us.

Haven’t gotten a chance to see this yet. My town’s theatre shut down this year, though we’re a small enough town I’m not sure if we would have gotten this anyway. Though, I think we ended up getting Poor Things eventually, so maybe. I will watch this!

Wasn’t in love with this but still dug it quite a bit, and I’m gutted that it didn’t do well at the box office. For you, how does this compare to Fury Road?

I’m Canadian and I dig Villeneuve a lot, but the Dunes haven’t hit me like movies like some of his previous films. My best friend had this as his favourite movie by June, though, and I suspect it might be there at the end of the year. I might give this a rewatch later on.

Mario and Ninja Turtles were both in my Top 5 last year so hell yeah. Do you think Frozen Empire was as good as the previous Ghostbusters?

Nice to see Lisa Frankenstein get some love, even though I didn’t love it personally. The Fall Guy, however, fuck yeah. It’s one of my faves too.

I think it elevates Fury Road, gives us more of the world and its history. It has references and ties to the other movies and even the game as well, which helps to make a more coherent whole. I have a thread about it on the forums, tho its a bit older by now. I would say they stand equally in my eyes. Theres a lot of naunce into how Miller films and paces his movies, which is on full display between the 2 in my opinion

Lisa Frankenstein, also! and Longlegs. both ended up being some of my favorite movies ever. i genuinely think theyre perfect.

Fair enough. My memory’s so bad that I don’t really remember a lot about individual scenes or anything to catch references, haha, so I’ll take your word for it. But I do agree with your final sentence, for sure.

I know this thread is a really small sample size but two people mentioning Lisa Frankenstein is interesting because I don’t hear anybody talk about it. Longlegs is in my queue, I just haven’t been in the mood for it. But I’ll get to it soon.

Hard to say…I think, inevitably, I like the older movies because of growing up with them. But, I guess I’d say Frozen Empire was pretty COOL

I’m having trouble remembering what films came out this year.

(Hits up Google)

Ok, so my top 5 films that I’ve seen that released this year are

  1. Deadpool & Wolverine
  2. Aliens: Romulus
  3. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
  4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
  5. Ummm…guess I’ve not seen that many new films this year :man_shrugging:

I’m sure this list will have to be updated once Sonic 3 comes out.

Oh, I see what you did there.

Solid! I haven’t seen Aliens yet. We agree on the #1 movie.

Challengers is my favorite by far so far. I also had a lot of fun with Trap, and I’d put Kinds of Kindness in third, both very memorable. Really nothing up in that top tier with Challengers despite me keeping up with things pretty well, but I think the majority of the stuff I’ll end up liking most isn’t out yet.

What stuff are you most excited for?

I liked Challengers a lot too.

Main things on my radar at the moment are Anora, Cloud, The Colors Within, Maria, Megalopolis, Nosferatu, Queer, and The Substance. Have heard great things about the new Count of Monte Cristo movie as well, but it’s only been released in Europe so far unfortunately.

I don’t find myself being truly excited for many movies nowdays. :man_shrugging:

I know most of these but a couple are new to me so I’ll look them up.

Why’s that? What’s changed?
