Yup, that’s really all I meant. I’m not defending Grohl. That’s a job for his lawyers. Zing!
I thought that’s what you meant too. I just wanted to reiterate again to show I was also supportive of what you meant.
I decided to try Topsters and created my list with very first books that came to my mind - I decided to add only one per author and only books with English version. Books are arranged by colour
My forvorite author is Ben Bova and favorite book fo all time is Flight of the Cheetah
Anyone a fan on Brandon Sanderson? I’ve just started the second Mistborn trilogy. Absolutely loved the first so very keen to get into this one.
Absolutely love his stuff. I can’t wait for December when the last book in the Stormlight Archive is set to come out. No one writes climatic scenes as well as he does.
The climax of the first Mistborn trilogy totally blew me away. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that before!
The Stormlight books are great! I also can’t wait until December. My only issue is that the books are so damn long that I just can’t spend the time relistening/rereading all of them before the new one comes out. I’ll probably redo the last one to remind myself what the heck is going on before diving into this one when it comes out.
I’m audiobooking a Tara French murder mystery (also pretty good) at the moment but when I’m done, I’m thinking of relistening to the whole series, just skipping around a lot. I don’t want to skip any of those Bridge Four scenes, though. Those and the first Bloody Nine chapter in the First Law series are some of the most epic audiobook moments.
So, so true. Audiobook or book - both amazing. Hard to choose a quote because everything is so memorable and dark.
I read Elantris and have started reading the Final Empire but got distracted and may have to restart it since it’s been so long. Trying to read through his works in publication order. So far I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so looking forward to the rest.
I was going to relisten to the Stormlight Archive books but my hold at the library on Cibola Burn, book 4 of The Expanse series came up. I’m going to have to at least read a summary of the first four books before I dive into Wind and Truth.
Not a big achievemente, but I finished my challenge of reading at least 15 books on 2024. This is after an abyssmal 2023 in which I only read two books.
I’m too ashamed to open my goodreads and being welcomed by a “You failed your 4 books yearly goal!”
Face the truth and move on. A single book read in 2024 is better than none, and you can do better in 2025. I wish you to find time to read and happiness in reading in 2025. Throughout my life I have had years with many books and years with hardly any. It happens.
Screw 'em. Goodreads is evil anyway.
Goodreads, after Amazon bought it, is not the same I moved to Storygraph but I miss my Goodreads librarian status
I’m so frustrated I cannot combine editions and automatic import from Goodreads creates plenty of dupes. List of book by author is usually a mess. And I really want to know how their automatic import by ISBN work - I always have to report mistakes, especially language (like Turkish instead of Polish).
You can become a librarian for storygraph too, if that’s a thing you’d like. You can email them on their support mailing adress to apply as a volunteer
I know C.S. Lewis’ fiction is not everyone’s cup of tea given the heavy-handed allegory, but as I am waiting to get a copy of That Hideous Strength to finish his Ransom/Space Trilogy, I’d like to praise the first two books. Particularly the second book, Perelandra. There are some interesting thoughts on the nature and purpose of existence, and it delves briefly into territory similar to Lem’s Fiasco, albeit far more optimistic. If you like Lewis’ way of storytelling, don’t mind the clear rehash of Christianity, and haven’t heard of these before, then check them out for a relatively quick and easy read.
