Video Game Hot Takes

It can be really hard to find something on there, so I rely mostly on bundles and tips from others.

I check here for bundles on itch.io. They are for a good cause and people sift through them and point out the highlights for you. https://www.reddit.com/r/itchioJusticeBundle/

I am currently playing TinyFolks (think of Darkest Dungeon with cute minimalistic graphics) that was suggested by someone on Grouvee some time ago. I am also side-eying Occult Crime Police by Eggcorn Games which is “pay what you want” as are many games on there. There are also free games that are good, some run via browser and most games on there will run on a potato.

The official itch.io Youtube channel features a single game every day, just gameplay. There are other Youtube channels as well that can help to find gems, probably Reddit subs too that I have not yet found.

My rule for small Indy games that I find on Steam is to first check if the game is also sold on itch.io, because Steam takes 30% (and 100$ upfront) and itch.io takes 10% by default but developers can opt out to 0% if they want to and of course free games are free to bring onto the site. I pay with time to find something on there though. The games are DRM free and yours to keep, the client is just for convenience.

Oh and there are a lot of games that are inherently political mostly left, an example would be a free “game” that highlights hostile architecture via a walk through a museum: Monuments To Guilt by louis worth a look.
