What are the top 3 Switch games you played this year? It doesn’t matter when the games were released.
For me:
Luigi’s Mansion 3 - I enjoyed the story mode in general but a big perk for me was the online multiplayer. This was HUGE for being able to play with my friends while staying safely at home during the pandemic. It was playing ScareScraper that kicked off our weekly video game nights.
Splatoon 2 - I took a gamble on this one since I couldn’t tell if I’d like it or not. Well, my friends and I love it and we play this weekly. It has so many fun modes of play.
Mario Odyssey - I’m a huge Zelda fan, and this Mario game reminded me a lot of a Zelda game in some ways. I’ve only recently gotten into 3D Mario games, and I found the Galaxy games infuriating at times. I thought this iteration provided a good amount of challenge while also feeling fair when I died. I had a hard time setting this one down once I picked it up.
Aww man, only 3? That’s tough. We’ve played a lot of great stuff this year and had the time to do it. I’ll narrow it down to 3 and do some honourable mentions!
Super Mario Maker 2 - I’ve spent a good chunk of the year making a Super World and had a jolly good time doing it!
Pokemon Shield + DLC - Lots of adventures with my other half
Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle was great fun, but so were Paper Mario Origami King and Luigi’s Mansion so those are interchangeable.
Honourable mentions to;
Megaman Zero/ZX Collection
Golf Story
Adventures of Lolo
Celeste
It’s nearly finished. Just finalising and optimizing the last quarter or so. I’ve tried to make it progressively more challenging but fair throughout. It’s not one of these super hard speed runner or trolling worlds. I wanted to make something that felt a bit more like a proper mario game. A bootleg mario game perhaps!
