I stumbled into Hunter’s March pretty late and had a pretty easy time clearing stuff out until I ran into this fight against the Skarrguard and Spear Skarr that just steamrolled me again and again, lol. I think I somehow had more trouble with this than any other encounter so far, and I’m nearing the goal near the top of the map now so probably close to the end of act 1? I was feeling pretty slick after clearing the two bosses that apparently are gonna be nerfed soon but this was much worse, hah.
Yeah the Cogwork Dancers have been my favorite fight so far as well! Fantastic animation, a hint of melancholy, and a delightful ratchet up in tension with each phase. Just perfectly choreographed, I was grinning ear to ear by the time the curtain fell.
Edit: I’m in Act 3 now, literally cheered out loud when the Bell Beast jumped in and finished off a boss.
I’m all for obtuse secrets, but Eva’s upgrade path being tied to an unspoken combination of crests acquired and memory lockets spent feels pretty poorly communicated. Had all the materials for her final ability ages ago and just had no idea.
I love this kind of thing because I didn’t even know it was a thing, and probably wouldn’t have learned until a subsequent playthrough. I love the depth of a game that creates scenarios where I won’t do, learn, or experience something the first time.
When it comes to finding and meeting the NPC, I totally agree! I love that she’s super tucked away, and rewards players who are building a mental map of Pharloom in their head.
But once you’ve met her, she very clearly states that she’s got a string of upgrades on offer, and pointedly reminds you to check in with her to unlock more. So there’s no sense of discovery, or hidden depth, just a glaring locked door that you need to keep poking at to open.
And even that I wouldn’t mind, if her hints and the upgrade path didn’t combine to create a weird false positive. I think a couple lines of her dialogue could’ve just used a minor revision.
Well, if you’d believe it, I had to go talk to her for a quest because I was told she had information for me, and when I got there she also upgraded my tools. So it seems that I was just about to accidentally discover this anyway, which I find amusing.
Yeah, the endgame quests are pretty thorough about pointing the player to the map’s hidden corners, they want you to find most of it.
