Pyre Discussion

Ok so i know Jess make these topics with backlog attack category that pretty much serves as a place to discuss a specific video game, but i just really want to talk about Pyre, as it’s the best experience from video games that i’ve had in years. And has definitely become one of my favorites ever. I don’t know if you’re supposed to do this on the comments on the reviews or something like that, i’ve made a review for it if you’re interested, also read the other two because they have different perspective than mine. But anyways, i just want to discuss it. So ye, tell me what you think of it pls.

This is a perfect place for it.

I want to play this pretty badly. Tell me about the beginning. I’ve heard it starts a little bit slow. For someone who sometimes can only play games in 20 and 30 minute chunks, do you think it’s possible to get over the hump of the beginning being slow?

I don’t really think that it’s necessarily the beginning that is slow, i’d say it’s the whole game. What you need to understand going into this gane is ‘the rites’ or the main game where you play the sport is only about 15% (my perception, not calculated) of what you’ll be doing. You’ll spend most of your time in this visual novel style game (which i love) where you interact with the characters and continue the story. But i think it’s okay to be played at 30 minutes chunks, you can one or two rites at a time. But it’s hard for me to say because i beat the game in two sittings.

I just picked it up today. I plan on getting a little bit of time in with it this weekend along with a little Persona 5.

I am thinking of picking it up also. I look forward to your discussion because I’m curious about the game and other people’s feelings about it.

sounds good, i hope you’ll enjoy it.

I’ve played about 4 or 5 rites now in about 2 hours.

I’m really enjoying it. This definitely feels like a love it or hate it type game. It’s a beautifully drawn visual novel with a cool sports game thrown in between if you want to be reductive. The sports game so far seems pretty easy, although I’m sure it gets harder as you go. I don’t think the sports game is enough to pull people back in that don’t like the world and the story around it. It’s fun, but it’s not a major draw in my opinion.

I can’t stress enough how cool this game looks though. The overworld is pretty surreal in a Yellow Submarine type way. I love it. The characters are all interesting, and I’m compelled to figure out what the hell is going on with this story so far.

Yes, the visual novel part is definitely the main draw and is the majority of what you do. Also the sports difficulty does ramp up especially with the introduction of modifiers (titan stars) later. Even though i definitely love the sports. You won’t enjoy the game if you don’t like the vn part.
