Just got back from seeing Deadpool & Wolverine. It was everything I’d hoped and more. Tears were shed.

Did you see the comicon announcements about the upcoming marvel stuff yet? Im curious about peoples opinions on it

Well given RDJ is Dr. Doom, I think there’s a good chance Doom is going to be an evil version of Stark from somewhere in the multiverse. That jives with the kind of multiverse storytelling that’s being done with the MCU.

Also his paycheck for that film must be massive.

Thats actually an angle i hadnt thought of, that i could see working. And maybe this time a fantastic four movie wont bomb… maybe…

I’m interested to see what they do with it. I hope RDJ is actually playing Victor Von Doom and not evil Tony Stark. While there is precedent in the comics for Stark to be Doom, I’d mich rather see actual Doom. I’ve not seen a heap of his non-Marvel films but I do wonder if he’s right for Doom.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an amazing actor, but Doom is supposed to be a Shakespearion villain. He doesn’t quip, he doesn’t joke, every word he utters he’s thought about before he says it. It just feels like the antithesis to Downy’s acting style.

That said, I don’t think Marvel has miss-cast yet, I just hope that haven’t picked him as a “jump the shark” choice after the “failure” of the multiverse stuff.

While I admit it’s not perfecr, I un-ironically quite like the first (well, technically second) FF movie. Ioan Gruffudd, man :smirk:

I genuinely hope that’s not the approach they take. It’s pretty unimaginative at this point. But hey, the Russos are directing after all

To be honest, i dont know alot about Doom. Hes also never felt super threatening to me in the overall marvel universe, but i also haven’t read much with him.

I think if they are going evil stark route, they really shouldnt have revealed who was playing him. It would have had so much more punch as a movie moment if nobody knew, but he is beloved by fans and i can understand wanting to use the hype.

I geuss we will see

Money trumps logic over at Disney!

To be honest, i dont know alot about Doom. Hes also never felt super threatening to me in the overall marvel universe, but i also haven’t read much with him.

Of Earth-based villains, he’s the biggest threat. He is as smart, if not more so, as Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Beast, etc. He’s as capable a sorcerer as Doctor Strange (he’s actually been the Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme at times), his armour gives him as much strength as Iron Man (he’s stood toe-to-toe with Thanos), and to top it all off he’s a cold as they come. He is very, very logical, almost to a fault. Like all good villains, he’s not evil per se, he simply believes he knows how the world should be run, and anyone standing in the way of that is too stupid to see why it is good for them.

The thing is, his way of running the world might actually be better, but the cost of getting there is way too high for most, including the heroes.

Pretty much everyone he sees as beneath him, but while that would be simply ego for most, with Doom it’s probably actually true. The only people he grudgingly admits are even close to his equals are Reed, Strange and Thor. Heroes like Spider-Man, Hawkeye, the X-Men, and the majority of others are a joke to him.

He’s the template on which many comic villains, especially those from Marvel, were based on.

I think hype trumps logic for movie goers, too. For reasons I can’t fathom, people still seem to think the MCU hasn’t been “good” since Endgame. It’s something I will argue until I’m dead. But having one of the original actors back, even in a different role, is enough for the public to lose their collective shit, as we saw.

This is why I worry Disney picked him not because he’s best for the character, but because they knew it would get the headlines it has.

I don’t worry this is the case, I’m pretty convinced it is the reason. The same with bringing back the Russos. It would have been nice to see new talent on the next chapter of the Avengers.

Another thought: Isn’t Doom a character we want to stick around, at least for a bit? He doesn’t feel like a one movie kind of villain. Won’t he at least need to make an appearance in a future F4 movie if the new MCU F4 movies do well? Will they recast, or is RDJ in for another long haul?

Apparently he’s gonna be in FF and and next two Avengers films, but not sure to what capacity. Seems they’ve totally ditched the Kang idea.

Looks like they didn’t want to find a new actor and just pivoted away completely.

It seems weird as they had set it all up. I don’t think anyone would have cared if a different actor had stepped in. It’s not like there isn’t precedent for actors being replaced.

not a full length film, but one of my favorite youtube creators made an excellent short film which is actually pretty good, the dialogue doesn’t feel forced at all, especially for friends who made a film together
