As we all usher in the new year, I thought what better time is there to post our most anticipated games of 2022 lists. Some of the games on my list have been there for some time, while some are brand new additions this year. Regardless I’m super pumped for all of them. Feel free to add your list below and have fun!

I always end up forgetting stuff when writing lists like these, but I’d say Elden Ring, Stalker 2, God of War Final Fantasy XVI (I really hope it comes out in 2022). I’m curious about Forspoken, but the latest gameplay put me off a bit honestly. And Hogwarts Legacy intrigues me too, but I’ll need to see more first. Also, The legend of heroes: Trails to zero is finally getting localised and I’m super excited (although I already played it with a fan translation, I’m ready to dive in again)

The ones I’m most excited for:

  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Sonic Frontiers
I love these two franchises and I hope they both deliver on their very intriguing trailers.
  • Stray
I just really dig the concept of this one.
  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp and Metal Slug Tactics
I’m not really a turn-based tactics guy at all, but I have nostalgia for both of these franchises, and both of the art styles are really appealing to me.
  • Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
When I re-played Jet Set Radio fairly recently I walked away with some mixed feelings. I’m really hungry for a similar game but I’m crossing my fingers that it has quality of life and control improvements.
  • Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
The Arkham trilogy are some of my favorite games of all time, so while I have some concerns about how these are shaping up, I can’t help but be excited for them.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
I love the pixel art style and the fact that they got Mike Patton to sing the theme song.

Others I’m interested in but don’t have anything in particular to say:

  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • The Invincible
  • OlliOlli World
  • Read Only Memories: Neurodiver
  • Sonic Origins
  • Splatoon 3
  • Trek to Yomi
  • Tunic

Games I’d love to come out this year but I doubt they will:

  • Breath of the Wild 2
  • Metroid Prime 4

a lot of these are unconfirmed and indefinitely delayed:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl
Shadow Warrior 3
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
Atomic Heart
System Shock 3
Read Only Memories: Neurodiver
N1RV Ann-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action

I would have to say my top 3 most anticipated are:

  1. Elden Ring (XSX)
  2. Elden Ring (PS5)
  3. Elden Ring (PC)

Enough said on that I think.

Would certainly love to see Bayonetta 3 and FFXVI, though not holding out much hope for either. Same for The Wolf Among Us 2 I guess.

I will definitely play God of War: Ragnarok, and assume that will be great, but weirdly I am not extremely hyped about it. I think the last one just felt so complete and nice that I was not left wanting much more.

I am not super optimistic about Hogwarts Legacy, but if it does turn out to be great, then that would be a really nice nostalgia hit. I have barely thought about Harry Potter in the last decade since the final movie came out, but would be open to jump back into that world for sure.

River City Girls 2 and Shredder’s Revenge!

Ooh, seems like I’m not the only one for the latter

I forgot about that game, it’s one I’m also interested in. I enjoyed the first two, and I love the art and character design for OlliOlli World, so this feels like a sure thing at some point.

I found the first two games difficult to find a groove with (the controls never quite clicked for me, at least not on Vita), but this one looks like such a whimsical departure I’m willing to give it another shot (though I’ll be waiting to read some reviews first).

I don’t disagree, but I liked what they were doing and enjoyed the visual design of the games. I certainly can’t claim I mastered either game.
