After pointing out Sonic Adventure DX is totally gimped and people need to play it with mods to enjoy the best version of the game for the umpteenth time, I’m wondering if there might be a way to have a section on game pages that recommend mods for games that improve the playability.
I strongly believe that you should always be able to play the best version of a game, but due to devs not having time or changing tech the versions that are available in stores isn’t always that. There are several games I would have given up on if not for folks here mentioning mods.
Obviously this would mostly be for PC games, but I still think it would be worth having that info somewhere.
If it’s not possible to have this on game pages, it could be placed somewhere in the forums? It’d have to be policed a bit to make sure stuff that is posted/ suggested is good and legit, but I’d be prepared to put my hand up for that.
Anyway, I think it might be worthwhile, especially for Serious Gamers ™.
Given the sheer volume of mods, the potential for abandoned mods, the somewhat amorphous and decentralized mod community/mod distribution channels, and mod compatibility that shifts due to game updates, I think it would present a difficult thing to maintain in the database cleanly. However I’ll tag @peter for his consideration.
Theoretically the IGDB switchover will help with this. They have a lot of mods in their database, and they will be referenced on the main game page. People will be able to rate them like a normal game, so that would effectively give a list of recommended mods.
So I need you to fly in and help me finish my basement up, and then I’ll get back to coding Grouvee up to get this IGDB thing done!
