How to request games to be added to database?

Here I am again with another request:

Could you add 3 Cards to Midnight ?

The sequel (3 Cards to Dead Time) is already on Grouvee

Hello again, I remembered another thing which was missing when I was archiving my games.

Metal gear solid does not have the ps2 option when you are selecting which console you own it for even though this exists.

Thanks!

Fixed. It now displays PS2 as a platform.

It is on Grouvee, under the title Three Cards to Midnight:

Hello,

New here. Pleased to meet you all.

I have looked on the forum but couldn’t find an answer to a problem I believe many have faced :
=> How to manage multiple versions of the same game, that is, multiple ports of the same game on different platforms ?

For recent games, versions tend to be very similar , but for older games, the games could have nothing in common except the theme. For instance, Aladdin on the SNES and Aladdin on the Genesis are two very different games, but the entry for Aladdin is one and the same for all of its versions, including Gameboy.
What to do if you have played one but the other is in your backlog (had the SNES as a kid, but not the Genesis) ?

Is there a workaround ? Or a plan to make separate entries for each platform ?

Furthermore, for collectors, being able to differentiate platforms is essential, even if Grouvee is not primarily for them (but could be).

Thanks.

Welcome to Grouvee

I believe the plan is to maintain different system version under the same title, given they were released concurrently. Grouvee allows you to identify individual platforms for each game release. So, if you own both the Genesis and SNES version of Aladdin, you can tick both of those off under platform details. For example, I own carts of both the Genesis and SNES versions and have indicated as follows:

Thus if I, or anyone else, looks at my game shelf for Aladdin, they will see that I have selected both platforms. I think splitting games up into multiple entries based on platform, rather than nesting every platform under the one game entry, would get to onerous to manage from a database standpoint. That’s my best guess on the subject, and how I handle indexing my collection on Grouvee. Hopefully that helps.

Edit: to address the backlog vs played issue, you can create additional shelves on Grouvee. So you can create a specific shelf versions of the game that you have in backlog. If you completed the SNES version you can mark the game as played, while also placing it on a backlog shelf. When I own a game on different platforms I sometimes mark them as both played and in my backlog. That way It is clear I have played the game, but plan to play it again, or in a different version, in the near future.

Thanks for your reply.

I agree with keeping different system version under the same title is most convenient when the versions are almost identical. Fallout 3 on PS3 and Fallout 3 on Xbox 360 are overall the same game.

But problems arise when games are widely different. In my example, Aladdin on Genesis and Aladdin on the SNES share the same setting but are two very different games with different gameplays. Playing one has nothing to do with the other. Most older games face this problem as hardwares were so different.

Other example, bad ports. Borderlands 2 on the PS Vita is very close from the PC version, but with DLC installed, the game lags and becomes unplayable. From a ranking perspective, this becomes a problem as one version can be much better than the other for compatibility issues. Ranking all Aladdin’s based from the Game Gear Experience is sure to tank the ranking of the game on the website while the Genesis and SNES versions are superb.

Putting the game in multiple shelves is, like for you, the workaround I found, but it is lacking, especially for these older games that differed so much from one version to the other. Shelves are not exclusives, I cannot put a ā€œGenesisā€ tagged Aladdin in Backlog while having a ā€œSNESā€ tagged Aladdin in Played.

I understand your point, and your predicament. We should pull @peter, @headrollsoff or @Jess into the discussion for some expert opinions on the subject. Their experience may lend some helpful perspective. I think it comes down to what is both manageable and possible for the database, I am generally of the opinion that one rates a game based on their preferred experience of a game. Using your Borderlands example, I would likely only rate the better of the two versions when assigning a rating to the game, providing I own it on multiple platforms. That’s what I tend to do. I think some people may even mention disparities between versions like that in their game reviews, if they have played the game on multiple platforms. I am not sure what the best solution is, but I’d love to hear from others on the subject.

Hi,
Can you add Pool Live Pro game?

Sorry about taking so long to respond to this.

I agree that this is an issue for quite a few games in the database. I say this a lot, but the data comes from Giant Bomb, and for games like Aladdin, they’ve chosen to lump all of the different releases under the one main game. There is a secret page for every Grouvee game that you can get to by adding /releases/ to the end of a game page URL. So you could see all the Aladdin releases we know about here: Disney’s Aladdin (video game) releases | Grouvee
The plan in the future is to let you bring up a metadata dialog and specify which releases you have for a given game, and that would display in a logical way on your shelves. The trick for me is that I haven’t figured a good way to have the metadata dialog with all of the cool options while still keeping the really simple interface for people who don’t care about that. I’ve been working on it for a while, and I may just release it soon and get some feedback on it before iterating on it.

I hope that gives some insight as to why things are the way they are. If you’ve got ideas on a way to handle inputing this kind of info, I’m all ears.

Hi. There’s a game in the database called ā€˜NES Play Action Football’, that was ported to Game Boy Classic. Can you please add GB to the list of consoles it was released on?

Done:

Here you go, Pool Live Pro added:

Thanks! Also, same goes for Asterix & Obelix XXL - it was released on GBA on 18th of June, 2004. Could you please add it to the database?

Someone should add Artificial Academy 2, it’s a masterpiece

Could you add Touhou Scarlet Curiosity? Also add PS4 platform options for Touhou Genso Rondo: Bullet Ballet and Journey Collector’s Edition?

Could you add Artifex Mundi games? They don’t have box editions.

@peter @headrollsoff
I notice you still have not added ANY of the games I asked for in my previous post. No matter. I’m here with more work for you. :stuck_out_tongue:
First, Supercontinent Ltd, a GameJolt game. Along with it come its GameJolt friends, This Is Forever, What If Adventure Time Was A 3D Anime, and Beyond Perception.
That’s actually all I have for now. So, nowhere NEAR as much to do as my last post.
(Still waiting for those… Please.)

Thanks again!

This is my fault. I’ve been so busy and have been putting this thread off. I was looking at it over the weekend saying I need to dedicate a couple hours to get through all of these. Something always breaks that I need to fix though. This past weekend was the Steam Import. Then the forums weren’t working because all of the disk space was gone. It’s always something

We’ll get a better system in place that makes it easier to add games, I promise.

I haven’t thought about the GROW games in years. I really enjoyed the first few when I discovered them years ago. Nice to see more. I have added the following, and will add the rest as soon as I have more time:
