Grouvee Photo Club/Challenge

Grouvee Daily Photo Challenge

Timeframe

The Challenge will start today, Sunday 1 March 2026 and continue for the entire month of March.

Challenge Guidelines

The object of the challenge is to take one photo a day and submit it to me. I will post the photos in a daily gallery.

  1. First and foremost, participation is casual. This means:
  • You can start and stop whenever you want.
  • You are not obligated to contribute daily. While the goal is to challenge ourselves no one will be disqualified if they don’t contribute a photo daily. If you want to contribute weekly, that is also ok.
  • You can submit photos after the daily deadline. You can even submit several days worth of photos at one time. If you do this I just ask that you provide a date taken for each photo. I just ask that each photo be taken on a different day (honour system).
  1. Subject: there are no subject restrictions except that you uses your judgment in regards to NSFW content. As long as photos are community friendly, they will be posted.

  2. Medium: please feel free to use any medium that can reasonably be considered to fall within the definition of still photography. This means digital, film (35mm, 110, 120, Polaroid, Instax), photograms, photo collages, and in-game cameras are all allowed. In respect to the last example, it would be idea of the photo is taken by and in-game camera and not just a screenshot of a game, to try to preserve the experience or act of photography, but I leave this to everyone’s discretion as I will not split hairs on in-game photography.

  3. Editing: try to keep editing to a minimum. Cropping is allowed, but avoid enhancements and major edits. Let us see what you saw through the camera viewfinder with as few changes as possible.

Safety Tips

Bare the following in mind when taking and submitting photos:

  • Please do not risk your physical safety or wellbeing to take photos.
  • Do not photograph anything that can be interpreted as illegal for your own safety.
  • Please be wary of sharing meta data. Where and when possible, remove any data you don’t want to share from the photos.

Submissions

Please submit your photos by sending me a DM with:

  1. The photo
  2. Date taken
  3. Preferred name (name, username, alias, etc.)
  4. Title (optional)
  5. Description (optional)

Selection and Inclusion

I will include all photos provided, however I reserve the right to reach out to individuals if I have any questions or concerns about the submission. This is likely to be rare but if I’m concerned about the appropriateness of the photo or your safety, I will reach out to discuss the photo briefly before inclusion.

I’m curious, would anyone be interested in a Groove photo club, one where we would do things like hold photo challenges, and things like that for fun?

My thought was to create a daily photo challenge as the first event where everyone takes one photo a day and we then share them in some sort of group web gallery. Rules would be very simple:

  • One photo a day
  • any subject
  • any style
  • any camera

We could also discuss additional rules like “no editing” or anything else that people felt would make it fun and low stakes.

The object wouldn’t be to see who has the best photo, just to experience the world through each other’s perspectives.

If anyone is interested, post a comment below and I’ll start working on logistics.

Do it. Honestly if someone wants to do 31 selfies, that’s interesting.

I have a very soft spot for Cindy Sherman and her photography. She is one of my favourite photographers (also I want one of her teapots) and her work was all about self portraiture. So I’ll never disparage selfies as a form of expression.

Do you want the government to crack down on me and make me do ID verification because of all your sultry pictures! Button that cardigan up young man!

I fear that I’ve already lost!

Neat idea! I haven’t picked my camera up in a long time, it would be nice to have some motivation to take some snaps!

I’m interested! I’m trying to get more confident with taking pictures—both of my self and of other stuff. So I think this would be a really fun way to do it as a part of a community I love!

The pressure of taking a photo every day I may crumble under but I’d still like to give it a try. :))

I’d like to make this as free from pressure as possible. And I think I’d like as many opinions as people have. I don’t want to make the rules so firm that it’s impossible. So thoughts I have are:

  • No real subject or photographic medium restrictions which means take anything you want with anything you want. If you want to talk a photo of your cat every day I welcome it.
  • No hard submission deadlines or requirements which means if you can’t post every day, you don’t post need to post every day. If you want to post every two days, or every five days, I say “why not?” Does that mean posting two photos every two days? If you want it to, but if you only want to do one every two days, so be it.
  • Want to shoot film stock and submit all your photos after they are developed regardless of deadline. Go for it. A roll of 35mm film has 36 shots. A person could easily just take one picture per day for 31 days and then develop the roll and submit it as is regardless of what turns out. That might be super interesting/fun.
  • Want to do something different that’s not necessarily traditional photos? Go ahead. Want to cut images out of a magazine and make a photo collage? Go for it. Want to only submit photograms? Also go for it. Got a photocopier and want to make a copier collage or photogram using a copier? Go for it. I think as long as it’s some form of light based still image capture it’s fair game. I would only draw the line at illustration or video. But then again, not if people feel really strongly about it.

This should be pretty loose goose. The moment it feels too much like work I don’t want people to fee obligated. My goal is to shoot every day just to get in the practice, because the more I shoot, the more likely it is I’ll take a photo of something interesting.

I’d also like to know, do people prefer the idea of submitting daily, or would you prefer to submit all photos at once at the end of the 30 day period?

Do people want to submit them all to me and I post them to a gallery daily, or do you want top post them in the forums and I collect them and post them to a gallery at the end of the month?

I wish it was easy to do something like buy a bunch of 35mm disposable cameras and mail them out to everyone so they could snap a shot a day with it. That would also be a fun project.

Edit: oh, I forgot they only have 27 exposures. But that would still be fine to my mind.

I kind of like the idea we send all the photos to you and then we’ll have a surprise photo magazine/slide show/dump at the end! But then the thread would end up dead for the whole month so that’s not as fun. Hmm.

Taking a video daily does sound like a fun challenge too. Or a voice recording. Or drawing. Those could be different challenges though. Brain is just braining.

I kinda have been wanting to get a lil dinky polaroid camera to take a picture or two a day with. I’ve always wanted to get one because I like the hazy, cozy vibe these photographs give off… it’s just $30AU for 20xfilm makes me hesitate, it’s a lil pricey!

That’s why I put it to the group to find out what you’d prefer. Personally I don’t think it’s that bad if the thread is silent for a month. Also for anyone who doesn’t want to submit daily, seeing other daily photos might feel like pressure. Maybe a good thing, maybe not, I’m not sure.

Yeah, I want to keep things simple with very few restrictions but also keep it somewhat focused. So as you said, a video or illustration challenge could be a separate thing.

They are definitely not cheap, nor is a lot of film. t can be a pricey hobby. It’s why I shoot a lot more digital now, film costs were really eating into my budget.

But a cheap used film camera and some budget film might feel more doable once in a while than Polaroid, providing developing isn’t too pricey where you are.

I forgot to mention that another option of people send them to me I create a daily gallery so all photos from one day are displayed together on one screen.
