Grouvee Game Club

I figured that was true for you as I know your setup and preference. I wonder about others who I know flip between PC and console.

I pick controller first because my TV is in my living room connected to my TV and because I play on Steam Deck. I’ll map KB/M controls to a controller if there is no built-in support. But there are games that feel better with K/BM, even to me.

Depends on the game, but I usually default to trying it on controller first. I have one Switch pro controller hooked up to my computer at all times, it’s my favourite to use and feels the most comfortable.

First-person games are the only ones I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard, but only because the freer movement of a mouse makes me feel less motion sick (but still motion sick, I have a weak tummy).

But if a game has a very particular, intended control scheme, I always try to play it on whatever the developer recommends… stuff like Aquaria which focuses heavily on playing on a mouse.

It depends on the type of game. This type of game looked like it’d feel best with controller and after two seconds on the menu, I decided yes, that was the right choice.

Fished AC:Shadows today. On to A Space for the Unbound.

Since getting a Steam Deck, I’ve come to appreciate controllers a lot more. I still find a little annoying when there’s no keyboard option for a game where it makes sense to have it, though.

I love Steam Input because you can map anything to anything, and I really appreciate that.

Please forgive me because I have ample opportunity to play right now and am falling prey to Oblivion.

Forgivness shall be given, had Gothic Remake suddenly dropped I would be gone completely missing for a week at least!

I had a family emergency so my controller sat unused on my desk, but this evening I should be able to do my duties and restart the game.

Oblivion was never a favorite of mine (only played about 10 hours of it) so no temptation for me same for all the other great game releases right now. Not buying on release, not even Detective Dotson that should be out today. I really hope it is a good one though that I can get later.

I hope your family is doing okay. I’m sorry to hear that.

I didn’t end up playing much of Oblivion cause I spent most of my time reading books in it lmao.

Only a scare, my mother is 81 and her heart sometimes acts up, so we had her checked into hospital, but it is ok now, just needs to slow down, but she often forgets her age.

:face_with_hand_over_mouth: Haha, must feel like coming back home and looking at childhood books and getting lost in time. So funny to read all over the webs how many people loved the game and are now happyly rediscovering all of it. I am a bit jealous and hope it will be the same for me soon with Gothic.

I’m glad to hear Mama Nelemania is doing better. I hope I’m still playing games at that age.

Oblivion was the game I played to escape from home so it definitely feels like stepping into my childhood and realizing how much I’ve grown since then, along with the feeling of adventure it continues to instill in me. I hope Gothic Remake, and many more games, we all get to experience something similarly magical again and again. :))

Chapter 1

I’m trying to figure out if Atma’s dream is the past or the future? Or if he was living someone else’s life somehow? So many questions immediately. The stalker girl from the prologue turns out to be Raya, and based on what’s revealed about her later, I assume she created or transported Atma to whatever or wherever the prologue was. A bucket list is introduced as the main objectives which definitely means we’re gonna lose somebody later. I wonder who…
We end up finding the red book outside the classroom with a scribbled out name. It looks like Ren? But the N looks backwards then which would be weird. Because we found the book, we can spacedive as well, which makes me wonder if Raya sent us somewhere to learn to spacedive for world saving reasons??
I love the amount of kitties there are to pet and it is so precious that you can name them too. I tried really hard to interact with everything and explore so I believe I didn’t miss any achievements or collectibles…but I suppose I won’t know until the end. Best of luck to everybody!

I am so lazy and have a hard time to sit down and get anything done right now. I am like this pub who has an attention span of 3 seconds:

But I remembered I should finally post my thoughts about the prologue.

Does spoiler work on mobile if I do all at once or do I need to do it for every part seperate?

Yes, controller is way better, no question.
The intro music reminded me a lot of Stardew Valley and was setting a very cozy tone, but I doubt it will stay that cozy.

I like the art a lot, that was one reason I wanted to play this. It is also well written so far and my brain has immediately given everyone distinct voices to the point that when I restarted the prologue for a moment I thought it had voice acting because I forgot I was reading only the first time. I think that’s a good sign.

I had to laugh out loud with the tutorial page for sprinting, it was so close to forth wall breaking “for what game that might be?” :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

The boy (at the street food vendor) that is doing everything his parents wants him to do, so his parents will do what he wants in the future… 4D chess, my boy!

The woman with the newspaper said a sentence that stuck with me. I am playing the German translation which seems to be very good, so my translation is not word for word what probably the English version is: “Seems the world is ending (because of the comet), glad I am already married!” WHAT DOES SHE MEAN?

  • Glad I have someone at my side when we face armageddon.
  • Marriage is so terrible, the world ending can’t be worse.
  • Marriage is my purpose, so I have that going for me even if the world ends today.
    I NEED TO KNOW WOMAN!

The “civil protection” guy “always tired and underpaid” I guess that’s an Indonesian joke on government worker’s situation? Also funny that he immediately thinks the main protagonist does weed.

YES, violence against alarm clocks IS A SOLUTION, especially if they try to wake you up for work!

TIL: Indonesia has their world ending prophets too and salvation is only possible if you are rich as everywhere else. Is Jayabhaya a thing or did he made it up? There is a slightly differently spelled historic figure: Jayabaya - Wikipedia Reading that page did not help, wtf?

I wonder what co-author meant. Atma was so surprised and emotional about how the story ended, if he did not know the story does it mean he is the one doing the drawings oe is it because it is his dream?

The book is just there and magic is a thing. It is funny how I immediately accepted the premise of the red book, but was disappointed that the magic staff did nothing. :joy: I got played!

Ghost girl is cute, especially with the umbrella at the end. Weird if she should be the one who made a person faint in the school (as said in the newspaper).

Why can’t I pet Bosque??? This game is literally unplayable!!! Also of course I will do my duty and pet every cat.

I also checked for Cimol the food deep fried tapioca balls seasoned with powdered flavourings.and then I was shocked that the newspaper lady read that food stands have food poisoned with textile dye and rat meat. It was another thing she said that was such an outlier. Is street food looked down upon in Indonesia or is this because dreams are weird or story related, or did I miss something, newspapers lie?

The adds on the wall for Badut the clown, I checked if it is a person, but turns out badut is just the word for clown.

Kroncong music is something I have never heard before. The worker said it was brought into Indonesia with the colonial powers, Wikipedia says: " Kroncong originated as an adaptation of a Portuguese musical tradition, brought by sailors to Indonesian port cities in the 16th century. By the late 19th century, kroncong reached popular music status throughout the Indonesian archipelago."

So it was a dream then. Good. I don’t want school girls and college boys to already die in the prologue.

I am intrigued and want to know more, but I have a feeling that this could be something playing with a lot of my feelings, there is something cozy and something eerie about all of this.

First chapter will follow “soon” ™ ®

I finished Chapter 1:

I haven’t played many anime games, but all of them I did play featured sleepy school boys. Is that a common trope or just my bubble?

Did the Red book say Atma & RFN? Or where just the letter scratched?

Marin is definitely neurodivers, she reminds me of me as a child. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I checked for the “children’s book” She and the Light Bearer, but it came up as a game She and the Light Bearer on Steam

The developers seem to hate cigarettes and television, I can get behind both.

Nice jab at parents who hit their children.

I love that I can name the cats.

Haha, I won the quizz first time, I am great!

Of course I decided to watch the Raptor movie, no chance to get me into a love drama film.

Was there a hint on racism based on religion when you talk to the wedding guests?

I wonder if the world doom preacher is a running gag in the game. He still insists only rich people will get saved.

Food in cinemas, turning school kids into smugglers since 1999.

The movie got more and more purrfect and less raptor based, but I guess that was for the better.

All the cat stuff was so nice and you had to turn it into (slight) horror, WHY?

Falling seems to be a theme here too.

Trying too to get all the collectibles, but we will see.

I also can’t tell which is happening when and the comet seems to not be only a dream thing? But I am also not sure if there is a dream inside a dream.

Looking forward to chapter 2, probably tomorrow.

Chapter 2

I stand by it the music has Stardew Valley vibes.

So this is how Atma and Irmala met and the red book became to be. Still the book in the other reality said Atma & RFN or something that started with an “R” but not sure it was Raya. I should have made a screenshot.

Always eat your vegetables, kids! I loved that diving part a lot!
Old guy missing his brother was sad. At least he has his memory of him back now.

Doom guy IS the running gag here.

When you stealth to catch the cock Atma says “just as in a video game” second time third wall breaking

Chicken love, I wonder if we will see them again.

False Memory Syndrome was a sudden change of tone. Atmas memories are definitely broken and disturbed.

Ha, a jab at microtransactions in the internet cafe.

So Erik has killed Raya’s cat and Raya is everything but forgiving him? The moment she turned with the chocolate around her mouth after “killing” Erik was something else. To be able to eat such a cake all alone … only a chocolate monster can do that, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is huge and has calories for a football team. Maybe we need to free Raya too and not just Erik?

I liked how masculity that went the wrong way was portrait. The game is definitely for a younger audience than me and I think for them it works. I hope Erik gets a way back too.

I can not get the soccer ball thing higher than 37 and the fighter game higher than 1300… :frowning: not so much fun. For the soccer I do not even understand why I fail and for the arcade game I am just too slow. I get the block 99% of the time no matter how small the green is, but the button presses are too many in too short of a time frame for me for the last bit. I would be able to do it if it was just a bit shorter, but even when I do 100% up to 1300 points I can’t get any higher than that. so 100% will not be a thing. I am glad these two seem to not be tied to the progress.
Is the cake an homage to portal?

Looking forward to the next chapter.

A little late, but I just played the prologue. For a few seconds I thought they were pulling a Bridge to Terabithia on me!

I mean…has that been ruled out?
