I got to play many great games in 2016. A good mix of classics and relatively new games. For 2017 i hope to finish up even more of my backlog, with a focus on the PS3.
Killer is Dead looks insanely crazy. Although I am aware of his games, I have never played something by Suda. I downloaded Let it Die, but haven’t played it yet.
I enjoyed aspects of it, similarly more than I expected I would, but I really disliked the overall narrative and direction. I also quite dislike Aiden, which is not an uncommon opinion. I was pretty disappointed overall. Watch Dogs 2 has a free three hour demo available, so I might try and see if they fixed any of the issues I had with the first in the second.
I haven’t played Oni in years and years. I still have my disc somewhere.
Did you enjoy Chrono Trigger? It is still one of my all time favourites and I am always curious how people feel about it when playing for it the first time.
How does this hold up? For a movie inspired game, I enjoyed Enter the Matrix back at release. I’d argue that it has a better narrative than the Matrix sequels. But I do wonder if it is still playable, and enjoyable.
yeah i dont know much about either, i havent played the metal gears but hope to get started on that this year. i just played KiD so far… Not sure what the connection between the two would be… Suda is maybe pablo picasso. Kojima is… maybe leonardo da vinci as an astronaut. XD
Chicago is cool. Aidren Lameo is bad. DLC is bad. Do i get my defcon badge now?
basically the crux of the problem is that they tried to create a character that had an inner conflict and is some kind of tragic antihero, but this doesnt really translate well through the game through the story, the supportive characters and finally the element of decision on the player. Aidens conflict doesnt really tie these three elements together, and I think the problem is made worse by certain things (like maybe cutscenes that clearly show Aiden as different ‘hats’ at different moments) so aiden seems inconsistent and troubled at best, outright confusing to a player at once who adopts a specific playstyle. From what people on grouvee have said the second game actually sounds pretty decent.
Yes very much. Don’t know of anything like it really. The way it paces and progresses is nice. the time travel dynamic is nice too in how it adds a layer. But what wins the most is probably that aesthetic it has that combined wonderful 16 bit art, wide range of expression in the characters (especially our beloved mute protagonist) and the hardware too.video effects like mode seven and really good music… It’s certainly the best RPG i have played on SNES. I dont feel this game is overrated, but it gets startling amount more attnention than plenty of RPGs that are at least decent. Phantasy Star IV has a similiar feel at times, but lacks the same aesthetic of CT. I wish these kinds of games werent as grindy as they tend to be.[quote=“bmo, post:24, topic:924”]

At the time it made have held its water as an OK but overhyped game. I found the game to be extremely buggy. (“What is a bug mister anderson are you a bug? ara-rrr-eee uuu a bu-uu–uu-g.”) even without that, a lot of elements of the game just suffer from this very strange kind of Y2K design, it feels bleak and empty and doesnt sport good features for a game. It aged bad and rapidly and i’s painful to play through and would have to reccommend watching a youtube playthrough of it over playing it to pretty much anyone unless you want to play it just for the hacking minigame, [quote=“bmo, post:24, topic:924”]

Mars: War Logs (2013)

Based on some of what you’ve written on AC and ME) I do think there’s a good chance you’d find this game worthwhile. I am sure the sequel builds heavily off this game so if you were planning on playing the Technomancer Mars WL is not a huge time investment or difficult game either. I liked the questing in this one and NPC interaction in general.
My problem is largely due to the fact that Aiden has zero personality. Almost every support character is vastly more interesting than Aiden. I also think his character and story are propped up by the worst clichés. Ubisoft had some good ideas but they squandered it on the wrong character. Marcus seem far more dynamic and interesting in the sequel, so I have higher hopes the second time around.
The nice thing about Chrono Trigger is the plus game. Once you start your second play through you breeze through everything on the way to alternate endings. It helps alleviate the feeling of excessive grinding. That said, I weirdly enjoy grinding, probably because I grew up playing games like Chrono Trigger. I know, it’s weird.
Yup, I won’t argue with that
I can believe that. A lot of games from that era have aged terribly. Enter the Matrix was never an amazing game, but at the height of Matrix fever it was fun to play. I’d find it hard to locate the motivation to re-play it today.
It’s funny, I bought it precisely because of the ways is resembles, or borrows from, Bioware games.
I had no idea Technomancer is a followup to Mars War Logs. Thanks for the info
