Fave Movies of 2024

Hey everybody. You may remember my thread earlier in the year for fave movies of 2024 so far, so here I am at the end asking once again. Your information will be kept and used in a YouTube video but it will be anonymous. My friend compiles the people’s choice favourite movies of every year and we react to it, so any input here is deeply appreciated. Makes our videos more entertaining for us.

And of course, we can always talk about the movies. I’m curious what everybody liked this year.

So what are your favourite movies of 2024?

Still Mad Max Furiosa. Lol

I am going to see Kraven probably, which im personally excited for as i like the character alot, but im not sure how itll be. I dont know that itll become the favorite

The only two movies released in 2024 that I’ve seen were Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Dune Part Two. Of those, probably Dune Part Two.

Didn’t see much from 2024, but my favorite movie of the year is Look Back, an adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s oneshot manga.

My favorite was Beetlejuice Beetlejuice; it was great. And it was my first time taking a lady to the movies, and she loves Beetlejuice, and gave me my first k-ss on the ch–k

Worried about her today because of her migraines; it got so bad she had to go to the hospital and I haven’t heard from her since morning : [

*Heard from her now. Her head is better but she’s very frustrated about the situation [always having to cancel plans due to migraines]

My favorite movie of 2024 was Poor Creatures (yes, I know it is a 2023 movie but it just came to theatres in my country in february).

Other of my favorite movies this year were:

  • I Saw The TV Glow
  • The Substance
  • Furiosa
  • Alien: Romulus
  • Monkey Man
  • Dune Part II
  • Cuando acecha la maldad
  • The Fall Guy
  • Longlegs

Cuando acecha la maldad is an argentinian horror movie. You may find it in english as When Evil Lurks

There were two movies this year that moved or disturbed me in profound ways and that will stay with me as media works that I’l continue to think about for years to come:

  • Red Rooms
  • Robot Dreams

Both of those films will haunt me for a long time to come.

Other films I also very much enjoyed:

  • Longlegs
  • Cuckoo
  • Maxxxine
  • Stopmotion

My partner and I run a movie marathon each December for year end, to catch up on a lot of films we didn’t have time to see throughout the year. I expect we’ll probably enjoy The Substance, Heretic and Hundreds of Beavers. I’m also looking forward to I Saw the TV Glow because we watched Schoenbrun’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair this year and found that quite moving and upsetting.

Special mention to Jennifer Reeder’s work: we watched Knives and Skin and Perpetrator this year and, if not for the fact that the latter came out in 2023, I’d group it with Red Rooms and Robot Dreams as one of the three most impactful films I watched this year.

I think this was a very interesting move from a thematic and socially contextual perspective, but I was a little bit disappointed, especially since many people had it on their list of most disturbing films in 2023, and my partner and I found it rather tame. It does interesting things with its story and setting, but I was surprised by the fact that it ranks so highly with some horror fans for its supposed ability to disturb.

It’s a solid pick. Not sure I’m gonna get to see Kraven before I do the Awards because we lost our theatre in my town this year, but I hope you like it.

@Vakil

I find both enjoyable but I’m not in love with them. I would agree that Dune is better.

@DucksOnQuack

Just watched this last night! Lovely movie. Not in my Top 5 but that’s mostly due to seeing a lot of movies. It makes my final list at the end of the year, definitely.

@NIQ_m2

I’m really sorry to hear about that :frowning: Sorry I haven’t responded until now but I’m glad she was okay. Sucks about the migraines.

@Sir_Laguna

My friend and I call them “cheaters.” As long as they released in your country in current year, they count. I haven’t watched it though. I don’t know what happened between me and Yorgos Lanthimos, but I was always excited for his movies and I’m not anymore. I’m sure if I watched it, or Kinds of Kindness, I’d like both.

@BMO

Adore Robot Dreams. Can’t listen to September anymore without thinking of this movie. It’s such an integral part of the experience. Excellent pick.

Although I still quite enjoy his films, I don’t think I enjoy his Hollywood films as much as I do his Greek language films. Dogtooth is still my absolute favorite of his, followed closely by Alps.
