What do you all think about the idea of lists, and more specifically community voted lists?
I’m kind of trying to concoct the idea of a list feature for the site. I don’t know if it’s totally worth it to have just basic lists when we have shelves, but I can also see the argument for them. What I really want is for people to be able to make a list that the community can then add games to and vote on them. It would pretty much be just straight copying the Goodreads list feature. It would be cool for the Game Club to use possibly, and just could be kind of fun.
Sounds like fun to me, it’d be cool to see Grouvee’s overall opinion on stuff. Also I like that the Goodreads version includes comment threads so there can be some chatter along with all the voting.
Would the lists (and comments on those lists) show up on the main feed as folks post em?
Might be ideal to keep them separate so that they don’t overwhelmed the main thread and can be a feature to actively visit rather than passively consume in passing on the main thread. I think I’d prefer it to be a separate page and feature than another thing that flows into the main feed.
I think it would mostly be a separate page that people would have to go to like @BMO said. I would probably make an activity for the front page when someone created a community list. I don’t think that would be too terribly overwhelming. Might be zero activity! I don’t think I would put comments on the main feed.
I really like this idea. I use many of my shelves as lists so it would be cool to have the ability for public/private lists. We could also end up using this feature for Grouvee to vote for their favorite 2026 games and stuff like that. Using it for game clubs would be really fun too.
We’d still run polls but if someone wanted to easily see and play through all the Grouvee Game Club games, they could do so via the list instead of having to scroll through the entire thread and make their own shelf or bookmark my personal shelf I have for the club.
You can create a personal list or a community list. A personal list can either be public or private. They can also either be ordered or not.
A community list is a collaborative list. If you create a community list, other users can add games to the list and vote on games in the list. The user who created the list can set the limit on the number of “votes” another user can have. Adding a game to the list counts as a vote. So for example, say someone makes a list titled Vote on Grouvee’s Favorite RPGs!, and sets the vote limit to 5. Any user can add or vote on up to 5 games to the list. So in this instance, I added Fallout 3, Final Fantasy III, and Chrono Trigger, and voted on Final Fantasy X (this is probably the correct choice by the way). I’ve used 4 of my 5 votes and I still have one vote left when I figure out what I want to do with it. I think there could be some very cool things that come out of these lists.
Hopefully you all enjoy them, and let me know if you see anything weird with them or have suggestions!
Is there a way to implement a way for community lists to be vote only? For example, I want to create a list where only I can add games to it but I’d like the community to be able to vote for the ones they like the most.
I have creatd a list for all the old Sierra adventure games but i can not add all of them. Apparently Leisure Suit Larry III and other entries in the series are considered “erotic”, which is more or less correct. Because of that i can’t add them to the list, the search menu doesn’t offer the. Not super important but in the end the list remains incorrect. I’d prefer being able to add the games to the list but i understand that the classification what is “erotic” and what not might be difficult as i’d generally prefer no erotic games on the site
I messed up and only put it on community lists. It is now there for both. I also changed it to where it’s the same as the way the site search works where the checkbox only shows up when you click into the search box. Let me know if it doesn’t work!
