I’m never quite sure what counts as “indie,” but here are some lesser-known games on the Switch I’ve liked playing:

  • Crossniq – It’s a puzzle-ish game where you line up squares of the same color, going both horizontally and vertically. Kind of hard to explain and will look boring in videos, but it’s nice and chill.
  • Tick Tock: a Tale for Two – This is a puzzle-solving game you play through with a friend (who also has it) for a couple hours. You need phones or computers for voice chat, because you’ll each be getting different clues that the other needs to know about to work out solutions to everything.
  • Yume Nikki: Dream Diary – This is a re-imagining of a weird and surreal exploration type of game that I really loved on PC (titled just Yume Nikki). A dark and strange puzzle platformer of sorts that I found interesting.
  • Yoku’s Island Express – This is kind of a Metroidvania, but with pinball gameplay. Movement is challenging in this one (since you can’t jump – you have to use pinball flippers to get around), but there isn’t really any penalty for doing poorly. Very chill, lots to explore.

I will second previous mentions of Hollow Knight, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Gris, Gato Roboto, Minit, A Short Hike and Yoku’s Island Express.

I have to second everything Tyler posted, if only for the fact that I own most of those games on Switch myself and simply didn’t recommend them because I haven’t played them yet. But I liked them enough in concept to buy them.

P.S. except for Edith Finch. I didn’t know that was on Switch and I have played it. I can not recommend it enough. It’s phenomenal. If you have a way to play The Unfinished Swan, it’s also worth playing, especially since the two games are tied together narratively.

That Polyroll game looks like something I might get into. This is the first time I even hear about it.
