Base building games with story and ending?

My girlfriend was perusing Steam the other day and saw a game about base building and the genre piqued her interest. She wanted to play a game in that sort of vein but that had a story, or at least clear objectives and an ending; she does’t want an endless sandbox.

I have no experience with this genre so I didn’t have any idea. Can the Grouvee community recommend a few good options?

I highly recommend Kingdom Two Crowns. It can be played solo or two player co-op and the story is in the exploration. I’ve never beaten it but there is a limited amount of areas to explore and monsters to defend from so it must have an ending.
