What's Going on With X-Box?

You can try a power line extender that sends the signal through your electrical system between power outlets. TP-Link sells ones that go up to a gigabit connection, which should be more than enough. As long as the rooms are within 300m of each other you should get a strong signal. House wiring can matter but usually it’s fine.

Maybe next Xbox will play the game for you:

FFS. It’s like they want us to stop buying stuff from them.

Why do they want to make the Xbox user experience worse?

Xbox is getting a new Game Hubs feature.

Microsoft has started testing a new Game Hubs feature in the Xbox dashboard that will display game information instead of immediately launching a title. A select number of Xbox Insiders can try this new Game Hubs feature out right now, and it does mean you’ll have to hit A twice to launch games from various parts of the Xbox dashboard.

All of this would be better placed in a sub menu.

good video that explains how microsoft (xbox) aqquired activision from the source

Isn’t there already a menu thing that is basically this? Hopefully they’ll give us the choice of launching directly.

Same.

It’s also why I don’t feel too bothered by xbox’s recent actions.

Since it just means having more chances to play a game anywhere.

So The Outer Worlds 2 isn’t going to be getting a physical release. At least this article is calling this the death of MS’s physical releases.

On a related note, I read on Reddit lately (the post of which, of course, I now can not find) that people are making physical representations of their digital game collections, be it making their own boxes, 3D printing carts of buying a figure from said games to represent them. Pretty cool.

Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox has an AMD chip inside and is ‘not locked to a single store’

Microsoft is making it clearer than ever that its next-gen Xbox platform will be focused on multiple devices and not locked to its own store for games. “This is all about building a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want across devices anywhere you want — delivering you an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device,” says Bond. “That’s why we’re working closely with the Windows team to ensure that Windows is the number one platform for gaming.”

I think most people just call that a personal computer

Yup, it definitely feels like they are having their own “Steam Machine” moment. We’ll see if they can make it fly. The question is, how will these Windows based devices play old Xbox games? The popular guess is through an emulation layer, and if so, will they let us regular old Windows users access that, or will we have to install Windows 12 Xbox edition for $150?

They are still manufacturing a first-party console that will play games from other stores. So they will have an “Xbox”. It remains to be seen if other third party Xbox machines have a similar feature set or if only official Xbox machines will have certain key features that differentiate them from everything else.

Looks like Microsoft is sticking with the “anything is an Xbox if it can run GamePass” theme:

This VR headset is an Xbox

MS is going to lay off another 9000 employees it seems, with many coming from the Xbox division. It really feels hard to support them in any way, shape or form right now.

Layoffs always suck. A lot of this is due to the current tax laws in America that went into effect in 2022 (written up under Trump in 2017). Under section 174, companies are not allowed to consider software engineering salaries as expenses in a given year anymore. They are considered R&D expenses, and can only be amortized over 5 years. It has been a huge reason why these layoffs keep happening. That being said, I think they’ll be suspending the provision in the upcoming spending bill Trump wants done this week. It’s all pretty nonsense.

I just read this on a different site. How much did Satya Nadella make last year? $80 million wasn’t it? Poor bloke.

It’s just an absolute joke. I’ll not be buying any future hardware or first party games from MS.
