Steam Controller (v2) goes on sale next week (4 May). @MarioPrime reviewed it for Polygon, and I’m excited to order one for myself.

Still out of stock, now more expensive:

lol, actually they are back in stock. Thoughts and prayers to those who pay.

I was going to bet money they were going to sell out even at those prices, but I didn’t have time to do it because they’ve already sold out.

Looks like they aren’t sold out in Canada. Ain’t nobody up here paying $1.5K for a Steam Deck I guess.

I bet they’re releasing stock in waves. They show that they’re available again here too. The Ars article I saw said they were sold out in North America earlier today. They’re buying them everywhere.

I still have a perfectly good LCD Steam Deck that just needs a new audio board in it. If someone was able to figure out how to source one, it’s a relatively easy swap. It works just fine without it, it’s just the speakers don’t work, and you can’t plug headphones into it. Bluetooth audio works though. Send me a message if interested in it. I’d be happy to have someone here take it off my hands.

My LCD Steam Deck that I bought in July 2022 still works fine. No drift or audio or screen or battery or anything issues. I was playing Slay the Spire on it this morning, no trouble. I have a white OLED 1 TB one that mostly just sits wrapped in plastic. When the LCD one poops out, I guess I’ll start using that one.

I feel mildly amused that I was only a wee bit off with my prediction of $1200 given the base with controller is $1128.

@peter I priced out parts to build a budget Steam Machine in a Fractal Terra and I can slightly beat the 2TB price if I really shop around different vendors, and only by a few dollars and not counting any of my own labour. Reinforces my belief that the Steam Machine is competitively priced given the current market.

I’ve been meaning to do that. I appreciate you doing the research!

What do you think of this thing: MINISFORUM AtomMan G1 Pro gaming pc | AMD Ryzen™ 9 8945HX | DDR5 Up to 5200 MHz – Minisforum

The microcenter by me actually has this for $1299, and it’s definitely going to be a higher end machine than the Steam Machine. The main downside I see is that SteamOS doesn’t support Nvidia GPUs (yet). This is the only machine I’ve seen that might beat the Steam Machine on performance per dollar.
