Retro Gaming & Emulation

I finally got the email today from Analogue that their Analogue 3D is being delayed until July. (https://www.analogue.co/support/resource/3d-preorder-faq)

I was kind of cooling on the idea of having one of these things anyway, but I think I’m going to cancel my preorder. I really like the quality of the Super NT and the Pocket that I have, but I just don’t think this thing will be worth it for me. I’m also not thrilled with how they handled this delay. They had to have known for a while they were going to have to push this shipment out. Maybe they didn’t know how long so they didn’t want to send out a message until they had a better idea.

I don’t really have much of a commentary here. I’m just using this post to complain.

Who has a favorite N64 emulator for their PC?

Doesn’t the general state of N64 emulation preclude favourites? :sob::rofl:

Like BMO alluded to, N64 emulation has traditionally been a nightmare on PC! But late last year I set out to play Rayman 2, and was pleasantly surprised to find that pretty much all the scene’s longstanding issues have been ironed out. The N64 emulator in Ares is super easy to set up, has excellent compatibility, and upscales to HD with great performance.

In general, Game Tech’s emulation wiki is an invaluable resource for up-to-date info on the best emulators for various consoles and handhelds.

I reckon the Dreamcast version is the best version of that game. The 3DS release is pretty good as well!

I’ve never heard of Ares somehow. That looks pretty cool. I’ll have to give that a shot this weekend. I’m pretty good with the computers, but this whole emulation scene is complicated.

I went ahead and cancelled my 3D preorder. It just seems like an unnecessary $300 expense at this point to play the cartridge version of like 3 games I like from that console. I’ll probably keep the 8BitDo controller preorder though. It looks like it might be an improvement on the actual N64 controller.

This was my thought and why I passed it up.

I considered buying this on its own just because it’s so neat.
