Rant!

Sorry, man. Toxic workplaces are the WORST!! And to lose your buddy along the way. Virtual love and hugs to you.

Sending all the luck :four_leaf_clover:, and a virtual hug your way, Cornwell is beautiful and hopefully will help to load your batteries. Also all the best on your adventure to become a dad. That’s one of the longest and most satisfying quests one can go on and once dad level gets unlocked the whole world changes and game+ will start. It is also a challenging co-op game, but you seem to have a very special player two at your side!

Also fuck workplaces who make things harder than they have to be. I will never understand that mindset, people work so much better when not pushed constantly to their limits and treated badly.

My Player Two is an absolute Goddess. It is not hyperbolic to say I wouldn’t be here is it weren’t for her.

Also, I love that you went to a place called Hay-on-Wye. British place names are so unique and charming. Every American city is seemingly named after somewhere else or stolen from the native peoples, but very few places here have that charm.

Finally got my bike back from the shop. I ride in to work this morning and the shop didn’t tighten the rear wheel. It almost fell off halfway through the ride. Now I’m on the bus and praying it doesn’t get stolen from the place I left it locked up.

I’m sorry to hear about your little man. I lost one of mine in 2021 and it was devastating. It still is. I have his ashes on my computer desk so I can hang out with him while I game and whenever I need to take off my wedding ring, I let him hold it for me. Oof, I shouldn’t be writing this at work. It’s so easy to get emotional about him.

It’s wonderful to hear about little Joey being happy and healthy.

I hope you can find some better work options. Your current workplace sounds absolutely miserable. I have worked in abusive and negligent companies before and it will drain your willpower and happiness.

What was the story that got into the Top 50? That’s really impressive. You should be proud!

Thanks Roach. We’re going to spread his ashes at a lake he loved visiting near us. He was always his happiest there so it feels right.

I’m hoping I can get something permanent but I’m not holding my breath. I’ve not been able to get a permanent gig for like eight years. It’s so annoying.

The story is called The Neoarcheon and is fantasy. It’s a little Doctor Who, a little Neil Gaiman (I know, but he was a big inspiration before the revelations) and a dash of Tolkien. I’m trying to base it mostly around Celtic folklore for it’s critters.

I’ll keep going with it till it’s finished. Something may come of it.

Finding employment is no joke in the states either. It sucks it’s difficult as well in Australia.

That story sounds really awesome. I’m especially intrigued by its Celtic inspirations.

I live in the UK now, but yeah, it’s tough.

Maybe when it’s done you could proof read it?

Yes! I volunteer for sure. I’m good with spelling (I won’t be correcting your British spelling, no worries). Probably not the best at grammar and what not but at the very least, you’ll have another reader.

I don’t know how many job applications I’ve done in the last moth - has to be at least 20 - and I’ve not had a single interview. Even for jobs I’ve done before or should have walked right into. Makes me feel utterly worthless. Fucking hate it.

I do a lot of hiring. I’ve read thousands of resumes/cover letters for over 100 positions in the last 15 years, I can absolutely promise you that not making an interview has absolutely nothing to do with you. The last time I posted a job in August 2024, I had 130 applications for 2 positions. That by itself might seem daunting but at least you can know that sometimes, simple numbers are the difference.

Also, whenever you apply for a position, always read the posting carefully. Consider any keywords they use and address those directly in your resume (and again in your cover letter if that’s asked for). When I have 130 applications to read, shortcuts to eliminate applications are easy.

I’m happy to answer any other specific questions you might have. Knowing that my job may not be like other jobs, I can offer what advice I have.

So recently I went for an admin job at a graveyard. I didn’t get it. :disappointed:

I came dead last.

Too many people dying for the position.

It’s a very grave result.

Guess I’ll put my aspirations to rest.

No point digging it all up.

Although, whomever rejected me I have a bone to pick with.

Suppose my chances of getting another job are dead and buried.

We’ve been trying to hire a librarian for over a year now. We had one interview back in November and they turned us down. I think they were just using the offer as leverage for their other gigs.

There are two potential positions in the library, just in another unit, and I really want to apply, both for more money and because I really want to get out of my current sitch, but they’ve been really shady with hiring and just shifting people around internally so I’m not getting my hopes. One position has been vacant for months and they haven’t even posted it yet.
