Movies and TV, Anyone?

Good lord I can’t with Alexis.

Been watching the British crime drama Marcella on Netflix. Man, it’s good stuff. Apparently inspired by Nordic noir, it really shows with some absolutely brutal things going on. There are only three seasons and I’ve just finished the second. Really don’t want it to end!

Truly awful. I’m shocked it wasn’t Jessica and Lala, but whatever. If Kandy wins the season, I’m taking a break.
OMG I just saw that I missed voting… That is absurd, how short was the window??

Jaymes already tours with Trixie and has been featured in the Vegas show. I’m not surprised she was in the top this week. I’ve long stopped believing these decisions aren’t already pre-made.

I don’t know how long voting was open, but it didn’t seem long.

The theatrical ending is incredibly lame and the original ending they wanted to do is 100 times better an even elevates the film as a whole.

Absolutely true, and it’s such a perfect example of how an audience shouldn’t dictate art. The puppetry in that ending is on another level - especially for the year it was produced - and the fact that it was not only cut but then thought to be lost in a random studio fire for years afterwards before being, thankfully, rediscovered and saved is nothing short of a miracle. This is one of my all time favorite movies and musicals (I’ve seen the stage play too!) and god, the practical effects on this are just immaculate when it comes to not just Audrey 2 but the ending in general. The also ends the way the stage show ends, which is exactly as it should be. Sure, the test audience wanted their happy ending, but by doing that you lose the entire moral of the plot. Glad to see someone talking about this! Frank Oz is a god.

I never watched the original ending. I knew they shot it, but I wasn’t aware that you could readily watch it. I’ll check it out tonight.

Steve Martin’s best role!

With it coming out in a couple days, who else is excited about Barbie? I mean, how can you not with one of its leads dressed as such?

I’m looking forward to it. To be honest I had no idea what a Barbie movie would be like, but after watching the trailer the tounge-in-cheek-ness of it has me sold.

We’re going to take our kids next week and it should be a good time for all. I’ve heard good things for all age groups so I’m excited. It seems like the actors are having a good time with it, so that helps me to get pumped too.

For me it will be Oppenheimer instead of Barbie. That overload of pink scares me too much.

Why not both? Watch Barbie as the chaser?

I’m going to hang tight on Oppenheimer. I like Christopher Nolan, but haven’t exactly been jolted to see any of his films as of late. Also, the 3 hour runtime annoys me. I saw one review say, bring a pillow and blanket; take that however you like.

This is a bit much for me too. They said that there is a pause where the audience can get up and walk a bit, go to the rest rooms etc. because of the length.

On one hand I find it scary long, but on the other hand I hope that it means they can explore the whole story deeper. We also go to a movie theater with especially comfy seats and a place for my walking helper so I can put my foot up (I had surgery not long ago). I hope this will not make me fall asleep.

Friends also joked about a double feature, I am definitely too old for an all-nighter. All I might do is buy a pink drink to go with the Oppenheimer movie.

Nah. You know what I heard about those Pink alcoholic drinks? They’re ‘explosive’ on your bowels. Though it might fit the theme.

I’m sorry. It was unavoidable

I hope he becomes a getaway driver like in Drive, but he’s just driving a pink convertible while police are firing in his general direction. If that’s not in the movie I’m not seeing it.

better yet, see both. I found this poster online.

Tickets are bought for Oppenheimer this evening, seats reserved and I can’t wait to see the movie in one of the few IMAX cinemas (I think digital not the original one) in Europe. I found a video about the cinema because I was never there before and wanted to see what’s the difference between the usual cinemas in my city and this one (next city over).

Since Nolan seems to be one of the few who makes movies with IMAX cameras, I get the full experience and the most shiniest explosions possible. :firecracker:

I wonder what cinemas/movie theaters in the rest of the world look like. Maybe all the same?

I wish everyone a great weekend!

We had at some point the tradition with the now wife to go to watch every Star Wars movie in those 4D rooms, meaning that in xwing chases, your seat moved and tilted, you got water sprayed when going through a waterfall, and got sound coming from behind your seat when there was a blast shooting happening behind the camera. It was cool, felt more like a theme park ride than an actual movie.

This reminds me of the times when we went to see the Rocky Horror Picture show (probably 20 times) doing all of this ourself by throwing rice, having water pistols for the rain and newspapers and standing up and dancing and singing in the movie theater. Dam is that long ago… I was so young. Good memories.

Guess Martin Scorsese was right.
